Job Summary:

Waste & Purified Water Operator II manages and maintains the operation of our wastewater treatment system, reverse osmosis (RO) purified water system, and tank farm unloading processes. This role is vital to ensuring environmental compliance, maintaining operational safety, and delivering high-quality water for industrial use. This role involves monitoring water treatment processes, operating filtration and purification equipment, conducting routine inspections, and maintaining water quality standards. The operator will also be responsible for troubleshooting system issues, recording data, and performing regular maintenance on equipment to prevent system failures. This position requires attention to detail, a strong understanding of water treatment processes, and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a safety-conscious environment. Additionally, the Operator will maintain accurate documentation, assist in system optimization, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement while adhering to safety and sustainability practices. This position also involves mentoring junior operators and supporting the team in meeting operational goals.

About the Role:

Responsibilities:

             Leadership in Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations - 1. Oversee and direct the safe and efficient operation of the wastewater pre-treatment plant, ensuring compliance with water quality standards prior to discharge to municipal systems. 2. Lead initiatives to exceed permit requirements, optimizing chemical dosing and refining process strategies through detailed analysis and testing. 3. Mentor and develop junior operators, promoting a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement while maintaining thorough documentation for regulatory compliance and audits.

             Advance Operations of Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water Purification Systems - 1) Manage the operation and maintenance of the Reverse Osmosis (RO) system to ensure consistent high-quality water production and optimal system efficiency. 2) Lead troubleshooting efforts, implement system upgrades, and drive innovative solutions to address complex issues and enhance performance. 3) Oversee sanitization procedures, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and collaborate with engineering and quality teams to evaluate and recommend system improvements.

             Strategic Oversight of Mechanical Systems & Preventative Maintenance - 1) Provide expert mechanical support for wastewater and RO system equipment, managing troubleshooting, repairs, and preventative maintenance (PM) to ensure system reliability. 2) Develop and maintain advanced PM programs to guarantee long-term equipment performance and adherence to OEM specifications. 3) Serve as a liaison between operations, Quality, EHS, and Engineering teams, offering insights during incident investigations and driving the implementation of corrective actions.

             Tank Farm Operations & Hazardous Material Oversight - 1) Oversee tank farm bulk unloading operations, ensuring the safe handling of hazardous materials and strict adherence to safety and environmental regulations. 2) Develop and enforce waste disposal procedures, optimizing methods to reduce environmental impact and operational costs. 3) Provide expert incident response for tank farm operations and hazardous material handling, while training junior staff on safety best practices.

             This job requires on-site work at a Mary Kay facility.

Skills & Experience:

Experience:  5 years

Field of Experience:  Waste and Purified Water

Education:  Associate Degree

Additional Skills & Abilities:

             TCEQ Wastewater Operator License: Required and maintained, demonstrating senior-level expertise in wastewater operations and compliance.

             Purified Water Certificate/License: Required and maintained, reflecting mastery of reverse osmosis (RO) systems and high-purity water management.

             Possess a knowledge of advanced troubleshooting techniques.

             Proficiency in implementing preventive maintenance programs and optimizing equipment reliability.

             Ability to read, interpret, and implement a variety of technical work instructions, manuals, and regulatory documents.

             Advanced practical application of mathematical calculations to diagnose and resolve specific system or equipment issues.

             Capability to frequently perform physically demanding tasks, including standing, walking, stooping, crouching, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, and reaching.

             Ability to handle and move equipment and machinery weighing up to 60 lbs. and perform intricate repairs requiring fine manual dexterity.

             Maintain precision and care when manipulating small components and machinery.

             Demonstrated ability to interact with tact and professionalism, fostering collaboration and problem-solving with cross-functional teams and departments.

             Capable of leading routine housekeeping efforts, ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs), and implementing corrective actions as needed.

             General knowledge and application of LEAN manufacturing principles, including Autonomous Maintenance and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), to drive operational efficiency and reduce downtime.

Working Conditions:

             Exposure to Hazardous Conditions – 1) Work involves exposure to hazardous machinery, loud noise, strong odors, vibrations, and outdoor conditions, including varying temperatures and weather elements. 2) Frequent proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, chemicals, high heat, and elevated work areas.

             Hazardous Waste Management - 1) Duties may include handling and managing substances classified as hazardous waste by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). 2) Incumbents must complete initial hazardous waste management training and maintain compliance through annual follow-up training.

             Physical Demands and Safety Measures - 1) The role requires adherence to strict safety protocols to minimize risks associated with hazardous environments. 2) Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn as required to ensure worker safety in all applicable tasks.

             Work Hours and Flexibility – 1) Frequent overtime, long shifts, and night or weekend work may be necessary to meet operational demands.
