What are the responsibilities and job description for the Long Term Substitute ~ Elementary Teacher position at Mary K. Goode Elementary School?
These positions are from approximately mid-March through the end of the 2025-2026 school year.
Create a flexible elementary grade program with high expectations and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for elementary education in accordance with each student’s ability; to establish good relationships with parents/guardians and other staff members.
The duties of this job include, but are not limited to:
• Teaches all core academic content areas as well as social development utilizing best practices in ordinance with the curriculum frameworks.
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
• Uses a variety of instructional strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, discovery learning incorporating release of responsibility.
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
• Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, maintains accurate and appropriate records, and prepares report cards and assessment reports.
• Communicates with parents through various means to discuss classroom happenings and academic planning and events.
• Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, social, and learning problems.
• Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays and learning locations throughout the classroom.
• Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by professional growth activities.
• Participates cooperatively with assigned administration to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with bargaining agreement.
• Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
