Job Position: Assistant Teacher for Preschool
Reports to: Director of Education and Learning
40 hour week
Beginning Date: as soon as filled
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for offering a high quality developmentally appropriate learning environment for preschool age children. Responsible to participate in all educational aspects of the preschool in collaboration with the lead teacher. Support the agency’s mission, vision, and code of ethics to welcome, empower, educate and advocate for Siouxland families with a special emphasis on new Siouxland families.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Understand, plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities for preschool age children utilizing The Creative Curriculum.
· Develop weekly lesson plans in collaboration with the lead teacher focusing on all areas of development (physical, social-emotional, cognitive, language, math, social studies, science, art).
· Plan and implement field trips and other special educational events throughout the summer.
· Individualize and scaffold for each child.
· Utilize the Ages & Stages screening tool with all children and work with Special Education Services as needed.
· Document and assess growth and development of all children in the class through the GOLD Assessment.
· Keep accurate and complete files for each child, including medical/health information.
· Adhere to the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct.
· Be familiar and follow state policies, statues, regulations and procedures for continued licensing through HHS and for IQ4K rating.
· Maintain confidentiality for children, families, program and agency.
· Maintain a clean and organized classroom.
· Collaborate with other agencies for the benefit of the students and their families.
· Keep open and timely communication with the preschool teacher and director if any challenges arise.
· Perform other duties as deemed necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- An Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred
- CDA preferred
- Interest and passion to work with children from diverse backgrounds, including a high percentage of English Language Learners
- Maintain current First AID/CPR Training and Mandatory Reporting Certification
- Previous experience working with young children in daycare, preschool, or private school settings is highly preferred

- Ability to respond appropriately, both mentally and physically, to an emergency or crisis situation
- Daily kneeling, stooping, bending and sitting on the floor, and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds
- Able to comply with all background checks
Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
