St. Mary's Acute - Speech Language Pathologist - Part Time

We are looking for a part-time speech language pathologist with a tentative schedule of Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Age Specific Responsibility

Must be able todemonstratethe knowledge and skills necessary to provide careappropriate tothe age of the patients served in assigned department. Mustdemonstrateknowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span andpossessthe ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret theappropriate informationneeded toidentifyeach patient's requirementsrelativeto age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.

Summary

Assumes full responsibility for evaluatingpatient'sneedfor speech therapy. Plans and executes individual treatment programsin accordance withASHA and SLP scope of practice.Keeps treatment skills upgraded through continuing education,evidence-basedresearch, and program development. Perform job responsibilitiesin accordance withthe program's strategicobjectivesand goals to carry out organizational strategicobjectives.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Staff will provide patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification or registration and as required by law and regulation.

  • Provides patient care.(Q)

  • Evaluates patient condition.

  • Establishes treatment goals in collaboration withpatientand family asappropriate, and in collaboration with the treatment team. Treatment goals should be interdisciplinary and patient-centered whenever possible. Establisheswrittentreatmentplan, andadministers treatment for each patient according to the stated goals.Delegates responsibilities to Speech Assistants asappropriate.

  • Re-evaluatespatient'sstatus and effects of treatment.Revisestreatmentplanas necessary. Reviews revised goals withpatientand family asappropriate.

  • Evaluatespatient'sneed for medical equipment and orders theappropriate equipmentas necessary.Evaluates equipment upon delivery and instructspatient,patient'sfamily, and health care workers on its use.

  • Participates in planning for patient discharge by considering and communicating with patient, family, community support/services, and environmental limitations.

  • Demonstrates competence in relevant software and hardwarerequiredto meet job responsibilities.(Q)

  • Documents patient's status and progress throughinitialevaluation, progress notes, and discharge summary according toestablishedinternal/external time standards and adherence to reimbursement guidelines. (Q)

  • Communicates with others to integrate speech language pathology services with all aspects of patient care. (Q,S)

  • Participates in conferences/discussions as needed and exchange of written records with other interdisciplinary team members to integratespeechlanguage pathology treatment plan.

  • Instructs the patient and the family in speech language pathology procedures as part of providing patient and family education including writteninstructionsas necessary.

  • Attends various meetings and in-services as designated. (Q,P)

  • Follows all hospital policy and procedures including but not limited to patient confidentiality and infection control. (Q)

  • Meets or exceeds program productivity expectations. (F)

  • Provides discipline specific coverage (following cross training) within the Mary Free Bed system asrequested.(F,S)

  • Adheres to the Mary Free Bed Standards of Behavior when working with patients,coworkersand members of the community.(Q,S,P)

  • Supports program operations as assigned. (Q, S, P, G, F)

  • May perform the following items to meetprogramor hospital needs.(Q, S, P, G, F)

  • Participates in orientation and training ofnew staff.(Q,P)

  • Serves as clinical instructor for speechlanguagepathology students and supervises CFY as needed.Supervises,teachesand evaluatesskillsof students.Communicates with participating universitiesregardingskilllevel of students.(S)

  • Participates in program development and/or research activities.

  • Meet or exceed clinical outcome collection standardsestablishedby department leadership.

  • Meet or exceed clinical outcome performance/improvement goalsestablishedby department leadership in designated programs.

Essential Job Qualifications

  • M.S. or M.A. in Speech Pathologygrantedby an accredited university program.

  • Licensure isrequiredin every US State and Territory the Therapist is practicingor is in Clinical Fellowship Year.Licensure requirements should be met according toindividual Statelaws. In addition, SLP-CCC isrequiredfor therapists in the following States per Medicaid billing requirement: DC, NC, WV, KY, MN, NE, KS, NM, NV, ID

  • Possesses andmaintains BLScertification to meet department/program protocol.
