Role Description The Security Officer is a full-time, on-site role located in Grand Rapids, MI. This role is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff by monitoring entrances and exits, patrolling hospital buildings and grounds, and responding to safety and security incidents. Daily tasks include enforcing hospital policies, assisting with access control and badge verification, documenting incidents and preparing detailed reports, and supporting emergency response procedures. The Security Officer will collaborate closely with clinical and administrative teams, provide courteous assistance to visitors, and help de-escalate challenging situations while upholding the hospital’s mission and values.
Qualifications
- Experience in safety, security, or law enforcement, with skills in patrolling, incident response, and access control.
- Strong observation, situational awareness, and problem-solving abilities, including incident reporting and documentation.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills to interact respectfully with patients, visitors, and staff and to de-escalate tense situations.
- Knowledge of basic emergency procedures and readiness to assist with medical or security emergencies.
- Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods and to respond quickly across hospital facilities.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional security training, certificates, or prior healthcare security experience are beneficial.
