Position Summary:The Natural Sciences Department at Mary Baldwin University invites applications for a renewable one-year assistant professorship in Biology to begin August 2026. The department is seeking a teacher/scholar with a strong commitment to teaching, advising, and research, as well as enthusiasm for the environment of a small liberal arts university. The successful candidate will have a research and educational background in a molecular or cellular biomedical field including, but not limited to, genetics, cancer biology, cell biology, molecular biology or physiology. The successful candidate must be able to teach a variety of lab-based courses such as Cell Biology, Microbiology, Genetics, or Physiology and will be expected to develop suitable laboratory course materials to accompany classroom instruction. In addition, the candidate will be expected to teach introductory biology offerings and an upper-level course within the candidate’s area of expertise. A successful candidate will possess enthusiasm for developing and mentoring appropriate undergraduate research projects for a year-long Capstone experience. Essential Duties:In collaboration with The College of Arts & Sciences administration, faculty, staff, the Assistant Professor of Biology will:
- Teach standard course load per year which includes laboratory sections
- Mentor and advise students with respect to course work and career goals
- Support and Mentor students through senior research projects
- Serve on college committees
- Be engaged in the profession through research and/or participation in professional organizations
