What are the responsibilities and job description for the CTO / Co-Founder position at Marva Labs?
About:
Marva Labs is an early-stage biotech company tackling antimicrobial resistance (AMR), a problem so large and neglected that it requires builders willing to take on what others have written off.
We are building on the premise that inducing bacteria to kill themselves is more effective than developing antibiotics they can adapt to. Our platform reprograms bacterial communication, using extracellular vesicles, to trigger self-destruction from within.
Who this is for:
You are a high-agency technical co-founder who takes ownership of the mission and wants to be the founding CTO.
You have strong scientific rigor, high integrity, and a willingness to challenge assumptions both in the field and internally. You are able to push back, think independently, and operate as a true partner.
Ideally, you have recently completed or are about to finish a PhD in biomedical sciences or engineering, molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, nanoengineering, or a related field, and have worked on functional research involving bacterial extracellular vesicles, outer membrane vesicles, exosomes, or related systems.
You have hands-on experience in:
- Production, purification, and characterization of EVs, exosomes, or nanoparticles
- Cell culture and experimental systems
- Translating experimental work into reproducible processes
You are comfortable operating in high-uncertainty environments, able to work independently, move quickly, and take ownership of technical development.
This is not a traditional role. It is a co-founder position with meaningful equity, building a system that does not yet exist.
Ultimately, you care deeply about the problem.
