The Welding Engineer will troubleshoot production problems and coordinate with manufacturing, quality assurance, maintenance and tooling to ensure the dimensional integrity of all finished goods supplied to our customers. They will monitor issues, give frequent status updates to the team and help bring them to a timely resolution.
Essential Functions:
- The Welding Engineer will establish the welding process and quality parameters for MIG (GMAW) and resistance spot welding operations.
- They will use the welding processes to define and maintain proper methods and standards for quality and production.
- The Welding Engineer will partner with the quality department to establish procedures, processes and equipment to test the resistance and MIG welding applications including cut & etch (macro etch), fillet weld break, transverse tension, and guided bend testing.
- They will work with the Design and Manufacturing Engineering and Prototype Departments to fine-tune designs, material selection, documentation, fixtures and process control to optimize product manufacturability. They will also conduct weld lobe studies to optimize the welding process.
- The Welding Engineer with design and develop welding systems and fixtures as well as participate in FMEAs.
- They will study current welding processes and research and recommend new ideas and methods to improve the welding process and reduce costs.
- The Welding Engineer with develop and implement robotic/automated welding systems and develop and maintain weld training programs for those systems.
- They will prepare written capital and cost reduction proposals, including cost justifications
- They will establish equipment standards required for the Welding Department
- The Welding Engineer will develop and maintain a Preventative Maintenance Program on all welding and robotic systems.
- They will assist in Metallurgical Studies that must be performed.
- They will Manage MIG (GMAW) and resistance welding consumables and weld equipment spare parts.
- The Welding Engineer will identify and implement fail-safe welding systems to eliminate redundant processes and parts.
- They will participate in new product development activities and incorporate design for manufacture concepts.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelors of Science in Welding Engineering/Welding Engineering Technology or an additional 5 years' experience.
- Minimum 3-5 years' experience with designing and programming robotic/automated welding systems.
- Minimum 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in destructive and non-destructive weld testing.
- Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Certification a plus.
