POSITION SUMMARY
The Specimen Processing Supervisor supports and promotes the mission and vision statement of MLKCH; is responsible for the pre analytic operation, including overseeing phlebotomists and the specimen collection processes. This professional will report to the Lab Manager carry out his/her duties and build good working relationship with physicians and other hospital staff. Responsible for quality in all work processes, that turn-around-time are met; test reports are accurate, on time and reliable. Promote team work, good working relationship with other leaders and staff in the laboratory, and promotes staff compliance, as identified in the policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the pre-analytic part of the operation, ensuring that blood and specimen collections follows state and federal guidelines.
- Collaborate with other leaders in ensuring that pre analytics work processes comply with CAP and state requirements.
- Under Quality Management Program, collaborates with other department leaders in promoting quality in all work processes under CLIA, help create and implement plans that effectively monitors and improves quality of services that benefits both patients and clinicians. Will be involved in data gathering, analysis, interpretation and report for committees, meetings and other educational presentations.
- Responsible for and supervise the proper training for newly hired and competency assessment of phlebotomists
- Effective problem solving skills, help assist in the resolution of testing/reporting issues, maintain the quality and security of department work flow documentation to meet hospital quality goals.
- Oversee and manage department schedule of staff and PTO requests
- Work collaboratively with other department leaders to improve the quality of services in the hospital.
- Responsible for ensuring staff compliance with hospital policies and meeting regulatory requirements within their assigned areas (e.g. coordinate meal breaks, corrected reports, attendance, overtime and punctuality)
- Performs quality assurance for laboratory information systems
- Follow up and resolves pre analytics and other related problems/issues
- Behavior, actions and communications demonstrate professionalism.
- Actively pursue education for leadership skills development in variety of opportunities
- Other duties as assigned
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
A. Education
- Bachelor's degree required, or equivalent work experience.
B. Qualifications/Experience
- 1 year experience required in blood specimen collections; 3 years preferred
- 1 year leadership experience in an acute care setting preferred
C. Special Skills/Knowledge
- Proficient with LIS and computer applications
- Current CA Certified Phlebotomy Technician License
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Strong organizational skills; ability to balance multiple tasks simultaneously
- Strong technical skills (MS PowerPoint, Word, Excel, SharePoint, Project, Visio etc.)
