JOB TITLE: Technician Trainee / Entry‑Level Service Technician
DEPARTMENT: Service
REPORTS TO: Service Manager or Shop Foreman
POSITION SUMMARY
Participates in hands‑on, on‑the‑job training while performing basic repairs and maintenance of rental and customer equipment. Works under the direction of a Service Manager, Shop Foreman, or senior technicians to develop foundational technical skills and support daily service operations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Perform basic service and repair tasks as assigned
- Develop skills in the removal, disassembly, inspection, and reconditioning of components
- Participate in required training programs to build technical skills and knowledge
- Assist senior technicians with repairs and diagnostics as needed
- Maintain service vehicles, trailers, tools, and equipment in good working condition
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
- Follow all safety rules, procedures, and regulations
- Complete required reports, work orders, and documentation accurately and timely
- Accurately account for time and materials used on assigned tasks
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Valid driver’s license required
JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Basic knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and techniques used in the repair of outdoor power and/or agricultural equipment
- Fundamental understanding of engines, hydraulics, power transmission systems, air conditioning, and electrical systems related to dealership equipment
- Ability to safely operate vehicles and equipment used for service and diagnostic purposes
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to stand, climb, bend, stoop, and kneel for extended periods
- Ability to lift 50 pounds or more
- Manual dexterity required for use of tools and equipment
- Vision adequate to inspect equipment and read manuals
- Ability to work closely and collaboratively with others
- Regular use of a personal computer or terminal
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE)
All required PPE is provided by Martin Equipment and includes, but is not limited to, safety glasses, gloves, and protective footwear.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Frequent exposure to petroleum solvents, paints, and fumes (approximately 80%)
- Occasional exposure to extreme heat or cold (approximately 50%)
- Operation of mechanical and powered equipment
- Occasional work at heights (approximately 5%)

Service Interns qualify for accrued vacation hours under the PLAWA Act, paid internship, annual steel-toed boot reimbursement up to $300, annual prescription safety glasses are reimbursed up to $300, employee discounts, and the time worked during the internship counts toward the employee’s overall years of service.
