What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bench Jeweler position at Marthaler Jewelers?
We are a first-generation manufacturing jewelry store. The owner is a master jeweler with a great appreciation for the talent of other jewelers who take great pride in producing quality jewelry.
Experience in jewelry is required for this position.
We have had good experience with apprentice-level jewelers, so we are definitely open to training the right person who has some jewelry experience. (We appreciate people who want to learn, but for this level of apprentice, we would need someone who has at least had two to three full-time years at the bench with an understanding of the basics in bench jewelry.)
Here is a list of the experience that we are in need of:
Repair, Finishing/Polishing, Gold/Silver soldering, Platinum soldering, Laser welding, Fabrication, All levels of setting hard and soft stones, Prong Setting, Bezel setting, Channel setting, Bead setting, Pave setting, Bright cutting, Excellent graver work (hand engraving a plus)
Bonus for skills in: Production work, Casting experience, finishing CAD, 3d printing, Laser engraving/cutting
We work on deadlines for most of the custom jobs, so attentiveness to timelines and efficient workflow is very important. Not sacrificing quality is non-negotiable.
We offer monthly bonuses for store goals.
We are a full-service repair shop that includes the latest manufacturing technology.
Andy (the Marthaler behind the name, is first generation jeweler and doesn’t ask anyone to do something he isn’t willing to do himself) Most of the time if he is staying late to work on something (not common until recently) the guys agreeably stay to help we know we can’t buy this kind of loyalty-so we do everything we can to show our appreciation.
We are extraordinarily busy, and the workload is heavy, but we genuinely love our team and believe we couldn’t do what we do without them.
Our custom jewelry department is a large part of our retail business, but we have also cultivated and work with several other designers to manufacture their jewelry. The growth potential is enormous, and our goal is to have a team that grows with us.
We have a great team that we are incredibly grateful for, so being able to work with this team and appreciate that every person offers something valuable is required. Basic kindness and respect for everyone on the team is required; We all have something to offer.
We have been in our current location for almost four years; we had a great workshop before, and now it’s spectacular. All of the jewelers' benches are custom-made. If there is something our jewelers need to make their job easier, from the chair they sit in to new burs, we get it.
Applicants will be required to complete a bench test.
If the idea of living in Western North Carolina appeals to you, and working in a shop that values experience sounds like an option you are interested in, please email your resume to tonya@marthalerjewelers.com. Please email first; coming into the store without a prearranged time to meet is very challenging to accommodate, as we are very busy. Thank you
