POSITION SUMMARY 

The Assistant Director of the Early Learning Center directs overall activities of infant/toddler, preschool, and pre-k programs to provide instruction and care for enrolled children. The Assistant Director applies professional knowledge of child development principles to implement Martha O'Bryan policies in a manner that ensures appropriate developmental growth for children within the program.
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for families in the Director’s absence, addressing questions and concerns with compassion and professionalism.
  • Assist in enrollment, intake, and orientation processes for new families.
  • Manage day-to-day program operations, ensuring smooth transitions, efficient schedules, and effective classroom support.
  • Exercise sound judgment in staffing, compliance, and child safety decisions.
  • Assist the Director in evaluating staff performance, implementing performance improvement plans, and facilitating ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with all DHS licensing regulations, safety requirements, and Martha O’Bryan Center policies.
  • Maintain and organize documentation related to student attendance, incident reports, safety audits, and licensing inspections.
  • Partner with the Director to prepare for DHS/DCS visits and resolve compliance findings in a timely manner.
  • Communicate clearly, respectfully, and proactively with staff, families, and leadership.
  • Collaborate with the Director to implement MOBC initiatives, cultural improvements, and operational solutions.
  • Promote a culture of transparency, collaboration, and accountability across the ELC
  • Step into classrooms as needed to relieve teachers, provide coverage, and ensure high-quality instruction and supervision.
  • Conduct regular classroom observations to monitor instructional practices and provide feedback.
  • Manages student behavioral or learning concerns and recommends methods of modifying inappropriate behavior and encouraging learning experiences.
  • Arranges medical attention for ill or injured child in accordance with parental instructions and state regulations.

.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Supervises all employees in the Early Learning Center Program. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

Education and Experience:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary, Special Education and 2 years related experience (OR) five or more years related experience.
  • Must be CPR certified within 60 days of hire. 
  • Must submit to and pass the Child Care Provider Medical Report
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, coach, and motivate a diverse team.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of DHS licensing regulations and early learning best practices.
  • Proficiency with Brightwheel software or similar early childhood management tools.

The above qualifications express the minimum standards of education and/or experience for this position. Other combinations of education and experience, if evaluated as equivalent, may be taken into consideration.

  • Strong knowledge of child development, particularly as it relates to children and families living in poverty. 
  • Knowledge of State of Tennessee Child Care Licensing, Department of Education Pre-K standards and Early Learning Development Standards
