What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dean Of Academics, Grades 5-8 (2026-27 School Year) position at Martha Obryan Center?
The Dean of Academics for 5th - 8th Grade Math will lead the vision for excellent mathematics in grades 5th - 8th while working closely with the team of Deans of Academics from other grade levels and content areas to create and maintain a vertically and horizontally aligned vision for Curriculum and Instruction at East End Prep. The Dean of Academics for 5th - 8th Math is responsible for coaching and developing all 5th - 8th grade Math teachers to deliver aligned, consistent, and rigorous reading and writing instruction that drives high student achievement and manages and leads the implementation of the Achievement First curriculum.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:
- Lead and implement the vision and systems for high quality, rigorous math instruction across 5th - 8th grade.
- Support strong student culture by helping 5th - 8th grade Math teachers develop strong routines and procedures, strong belief & belonging in classroom cultures and high engagement through observation feedback and real time coaching.
- Ensure strong observation feedback cycles; most teachers are observed weekly using an EEP Arc Rubric and meet with their coach weekly or biweekly to be developed from those observations in one on one coaching meetings.
- Implement existing math curriculum and assessments (Achievement First) for grades 5th - 8th to ensure high rigor level and alignment to the Common Core.
- Lead weekly content meetings with each grade level to internalize lessons, unpack units and/or respond to data.
- Fully oversee the professional development, instructional coaching, and teacher, staff, and leader development related to the 5-8 Math program (8 lead Math Teachers)
- Observe Math instruction across grade levels and support and coach teachers to deliver high quality, aligned, and rigorous reading and writing instruction.
- Maintain systems of data driven instruction to ensure teachers use data to drive reading, writing, and math instruction.
- Provide quality control and support teaching Response to Intervention groups, advancing reading outcomes for struggling scholars

- Support and help execute 5-8 events and initiatives (Culture Events, Parent Nights, etc)
Role Prerequisites:
- A minimum of 4 years teaching experience preferred with demonstrated track record of high student achievement;
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a management or leadership capacity
- Demonstrated ability to coach teachers to improve student achievement by setting clear goals, consistent development, active coaching and support, and providing actionable steps to improving performance;
- Experience managing a team of high performing teachers through setting goals, communicating clear expectations, and providing timely feedback and support;
- Ability to manage multiple priorities from a variety of sources, organizing and prioritizing effectively to impact areas of greatest need;
- Experience organizing and facilitating effective meetings;
- Ability to deconstruct complex problems and develop coherent, actionable strategies;
- A bachelor’s degree with a preference for a graduate degree in a related field;
- Achievement First curriculum familiarity preferred.
