What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr Program Manager position at Marshwinds International Incorporated?
Overall, we need a person who has led a huge migration project, that has managed multiple workstreams, worked with multiple application leads, strong in communication, and experience.
- Program management vs project management (non-negotiable need)
- This migration is going to involve many application teams (workstreams) with their own priorities and competing goals along with how they think a migration should be treated, and of course with their workloads as a higher priority. This person needs to be able to manage the internal politics of this and be able to drive the migration with a strong sense of control.
- Additionally, they will need to be able to present dashboards and program status to executives, along with the maturity to handle questions from multiple executives who all have competing priorities.
- They will also be leading the initiative overseeing external vendors who will be doing the actual migration work, as a result, experience managing and holding global SI accountable is a key skill we are seeking.
- Migration experience
- This person needs to have some experience with leading a migration program. Please note that it is strongly preferred for them to have experience with Enterprise Application Migrations, including production, test, staging, etc, without disrupting the enterprise. There will be planned downtimes, but they will need to ensure that the workstream leads are held accountable and being forthright.
- Experience with data centers, storage, infrastructure, and cloud is good but understanding running a program for application migrations is key.
- Strong understanding of mitigating risks and sudden change of scope
- There may be a chance the scope can change and it’s important the candidate has experienced this and successfully redirected the project with minimal impact to the time and schedule
- Also, the ability to identify risks where a workstream lead may be optimistic or not seeing a typical risk is important.
- Ability to communicate, read the executive room and understand how to manage politics in a pressure situation
