**Job Summary**
The Sleep Medicine Nurse Practitioner provides advanced nursing care for patients with sleep disorders, including sleep apnea, insomnia, restless leg syndrome, and narcolepsy. The NP works in collaboration with physicians to perform comprehensive assessments, interprets diagnostic tests, develops treatment plans, and educates patients to improve sleep quality and overall health. Conduct detailed patient histories and physical exams focused on sleep health.
Order and interpret sleep studies, polysomnography, actigraphy, and other diagnostic tests.
Diagnose and manage sleep disorders using evidence-based protocols.
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans including CPAP therapy, medications, behavioral interventions, and lifestyle modifications.
Monitor patient progress and adjust treatments accordingly.
Educate patients and families on sleep hygiene, treatment adherence, and comorbidity management.
Collaborate with pulmonologists, neurologists, psychologists, and other specialists.
Document all clinical encounters and treatment plans accurately in the electronic health record.
Participate in sleep center operations, quality improvement, and patient education programs.
**Qualifications**
Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
If APRN was licensed prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred.
Experience in sleep medicine preferred.
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice.
Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice.
State Controlled Substance License (if required by State)
National board certification as a Family (FNP-BC) or (FNP–C), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care (AGPCNP-BC) or (A-GNP), Adult-Gerontology Acute Care (AGACNP-BC) or ACNPC-AG), Acute Care Adult (ACNP-BC), Adult (ANP-C)
Obtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form.
Privileging documents and related credentialing requirements will supersede this job description in defining minimum qualifications, criteria, and scope of practice, if variation between documents exists.
