Position Details: Union: AFSCME Internal Posting Timeline: Monday, June 29th at 1:00pm through Wednesday, July 1st at 1:00pm Benefits Eligibility: Full-time Employee Status: Full-Time Shift Length(s): 8.5, 9, or 9.5 hours Start Time(s): 8:00am, 7:00am or as assigned Overtime Status: 12 hours in 1 day or 40 hours in 1 work week Wage Range (MA): $20.86 - $27.39 Wage Range (LPN): $24.72 - $32.42 **Job Summary** The Medical Assistant functions as an important member of the healthcare team by providing basic clinical, clerical, and technical support to assist providers in planning for patients’ care, comfort, and safety. Prepares instruments, equipment and materials needed for patient care; keeps exam room aseptic, neat and supplied. Obtains and documents complete patient data in a timely and accurate manner. Prepares patients for exams and assists provider with exams/tests/procedures as needed. Instructs patients in preparation for specific procedures and tests when appropriate. Performs basic procedures as ordered by provider and within scope of practice. Processes provider's orders, prepares appropriate forms, and schedules appointments and services. Arranges for hospital admission when indicated. Ensures that charges are submitted in a timely manner. Assists the provider with obtaining test results. Proficiently uses computer applications as required for patient care. Processes prescriptions as directed. Communicates with patients regarding their concerns, collects information, and relays this information professionally and efficiently to the provider. Completes clerical or insurance processes to ensure the proper documentation and submission of charges is completed in a timely manner. Regular attendance is required in order to carry out the essential functions of the position. Reviews and meets ongoing competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform, within scope, role specific functions. Other duties as assigned. **Qualifications** Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant Program or applicable on the job clinical experience. If Medical Assistant Program has not been completed, must have applicable on the job clinical experience. Experience working as a Medical Assistant preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 30 days of hire. If travel to offsite locations is required, must possess a valid driver’s license and have a driving record without a significant history of accidents and/or convictions of moving violations.
