Position SummaryThe Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine (JCESOM) at Marshall University seeks exceptional candidates for the position of Chair of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology. The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology is a comprehensive academic department providing a full spectrum of women’s health services across all stages of life. The department includes general obstetrics and gynecology as well as subspecialty expertise in maternal-fetal medicine, gynecologic surgery, gynecologic oncology, and reproductive health. Additionally, the practice houses the only subspecialty certified urogynecology and female pelvic surgery specialists in the region and the only fellowship trained pediatric and adolescent gynecologist. The department operates one of the only two in-vitro fertilization labs in West Virginia. Faculty and resident physicians provide care at Marshall Health Network – Cabell Huntington Hospital and ambulatory sites across the region, supporting both tertiary and community-based women’s health services.The Chair oversees all operational and programmatic aspects of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, including clinical, research and educational activities. Responsibilities include strategic planning, management of budgets and resources, recruitment and mentorship of faculty and trainees and advancement of innovative, patient-centered models of care. The Chair promotes excellence in women’s health outcomes, strengthens residency and medical student education and supports scholarly activity through research, grants, publications and regional and national collaboration.Core ResponsibiltiesThe Chair of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology will provide strategic, academic and administrative leadership to advance the department’s mission in research, education, and service.Key responsibilties include:Academic LeadershipProvide visionary leadership to advance the department’s growth and a culture of excellence.Collaborate with Marshall Health Network leadership to enhance clinical excellence, patient satisfaction, quality and research initiatives.Ensure exceptional clinical and research education and training for medical students, residents and fellows, while also providing educational mentorship to faculty.Maintain the highest standards of academic and clinical excellence for the department’s residency and fellowship training programsClinicalOversee planning, funding and sustainability of departmental activities while maintaining excellence and required accreditations and certifications.Work directly with hospital administration to develop budgets and manage financial issues related to clinical operations.Expand services to across West Virginia and surrounding rural communities.Research and Scholarly AdvancementGuide, grow and participate in a dynamic collaborative research environmentSupport faculty in securing extramural funding, developing translational research and sustaining nationally recognized research programs.Identify and address departmental research infrastructure and resource needs.Faculty Development and RecruitmentRecruit, retain, and develop a diverse and high-performing faculty.Conduct faculty evaluations and support professional growth through mentorship development opportunities and performance recognition.Encourage collaborative and cross-disciplinary academic activityStrategic and Fiscal ManagementCollaborate with the Dean and leadership team to shape and implement a strategic departmental vision that supports institutional goals.Oversee the department budget and financial management, ensuring fiscal responsibility and effective resource allocation to support strategic goals and financial sustainability.Institutional and Community EngagementRepresent the department within the medical school, across the university and with externalpartners and agencies.Serve on key committees and support initiatives that advance institutional priorities and regional impact.Foster a sense of community, transparency and shared purpose among faculty, learners and staff.Promote community partnerships and interdisciplinary collaboration.How to ApplyInterested candidates should provide their curriculum vitae and a letter of interest outlining key leadership experiences to Charlotte Tinsley at charlotte.tinsley@amnhealthcare.com or via contact below.
