Position Summary
The Outreach Coordinator is a full-time professional staff member responsible for leading counseling center outreach activities that promote mental health awareness, reduce stigma, and increase access to services across the Marshall University community. This position works closely with students, faculty, staff, campus partners, and community agencies to strengthen awareness of mental health issues, available resources, and pathways to care. The Coordinator of Outreach also provides direct clinical services and participates in the Counseling Center’s clinical operations as part of a collaborative team. University counseling outreach roles commonly combine direct service, campus education, and coordinated outreach efforts.
Outreach Responsibilities

  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver outreach programming for students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Psychoeducational workshops, awareness events, mental health promotion activities, training, presentations, special events, campus wellness initiatives, tabling events, and collaborative programming with campus and community partners.
  • Promote visibility of Counseling Center services at recruitment events and other university-sponsored activities and work to build strong partnerships that expand access to resources and normalize help-seeking behavior.
  • Assist in writing, editing, and submitting grant proposals to secure funding for mental health initiatives and outreach programming.
  • Use effective networking skills to build and sustain partnerships with community agencies and campus departments to support outreach initiatives and collaborative programming.


Essential Clinical Responsibilities
  • Conduct client intake interviews and administer appropriate screening and assessment tools.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans aligned with clinical best practices.
  • Provide counseling and psychotherapy services addressing, but not limited to, concerns and mental health diagnoses such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, cognitive or eating disorders, substance use, personality disorders, trauma, sexual or gender identity, adjustment difficulties, etc.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, including notes, assessments, and treatment plans within 48 hours of service.
  • Participate in a 24-hour on-call rotation to provide crisis intervention on campus or in hospitals, supporting students and families during emergencies involving suicide risk, trauma, or other mental health crises.
  • Facilitate referrals to appropriate on- or off-campus resources for higher levels of care or specialized treatment.
  • Serve as a liaison through consultation among university departments, community providers, MUPD, physicians, and family members for coordinated student support.
  • Attend supervision sessions and ongoing staff meetings to ensure professional growth and clinical quality.
  • Assist in crisis response efforts, safety planning, and referrals to higher levels of care when needed.
  • Participate in team meetings, case consultations, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Stay informed on best practices in college mental health, outreach, and student support services.
  • Support diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in all counseling and outreach efforts.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Program Evaluation and Data Collection
  • Gather and analyze quantitative and qualitative data related to outreach activities, service utilization and client outcomes.
  • Prepare detailed reports summarizing trends, key performance indicators, and actionable recommendations for continuous program improvement.
  • Collaborate with Counseling Center leadership on needs assessments, performance metrics, and goal setting to strengthen programming and align outreach with student needs.
  • All data collection, recordkeeping, and reporting will be completed in compliance with federal, state, institutional, grant, and accreditation standards. Counseling center programs commonly use feedback, reporting, and outcome data to guide service improvement and accountability.

Qualifications

Must be able to perform all essential job duties as outlined in the job description.

Required Qualifications

Education
Master’s in Counseling or Social Work required. If current WV LPC or LGSW/LICSW not held, must be license eligible with WVBEC or WVBSW.

Experience
Minimum of 5 years clinical experience. Minimum 5 years campus counseling and outreach experience.
