What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cardiovascular Services / Vice Chair for Research position at Marshall University?
Primary Responsibilities
- Serve as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on research projects related to cardiovascular disease, aging, obesity, diabetes and chronic kidney disease.
- Develop and maintain a robust, independently funded research program in mechanistic, translational, or population-based cardiovascular science.
- Lead and contribute to NIH R01 and other major grant applications.
- Disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed journals and scientific meetings.
- Foster collaboration with clinical and basic science faculty across disciplines.
- Mentor medical residents, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows.
- Pursue and maintain external funding from NIH, AHA, CDC, and other agencies.
- Engage in limited teaching responsibilities as appropriate.

Required Qualifications
Education
- Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. in cardiovascular physiology, biomedical sciences, public health, or a related field.
Experience
- At least 5 years of faculty-level research experience.
- Demonstrated success as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on NIH R01 grants.
- Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
- Proven ability to secure extramural funding and lead multidisciplinary research initiatives.

- Previous involvement in translational or community-based research is essential.
- Experience working with underserved or rural populations is a plus.
- Familiarity with cardiometabolic health disparities specific to Appalachia.
- History of mentoring junior investigators in research and grant writing.
