The Li Laboratory in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Marshall University is seeking a motivated, organized, and detail-oriented Research Technician to support NIH-funded research investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying cardiovascular disease, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), inflammation, platelet biology, and thrombosis.
This is a full-time, at-will position. The successful candidate will complete a three-month probationary period before transitioning to an annual appointment, contingent upon satisfactory performance and continued funding.

The Li Laboratory in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Marshall University is seeking a motivated, organized, and detail-oriented Research Technician to support NIH-funded research investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying cardiovascular disease, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), inflammation, platelet biology, and thrombosis.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Perform daily animal husbandry and monitor the health and welfare of laboratory mice.
- Assist with mouse breeding, genotyping, weaning, identification, and colony record keeping.
- Perform routine laboratory techniques, including:
- DNA, RNA, and protein extraction and quantification
- PCR and gel electrophoresis
- Western blotting
- Preparation of laboratory buffers and reagents
- Basic mammalian cell culture (preferred)
- Maintain laboratory inventory and ensure adequate laboratory supplies.
- Prepare common laboratory solutions and reagents.
- Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks, electronic records, and experimental documentation.
- Follow established laboratory safety procedures and institutional animal care guidelines.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Animal Science, or a closely related field.
- Experience handling laboratory animals or a willingness to learn.
- Basic laboratory skills, including PCR, Western blotting, and preparation of laboratory reagents.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while following established laboratory protocols.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
Education Experience
- Previous experience with mouse husbandry, colony management, and basic mouse surgical procedures.
- Experience with mammalian cell culture.
- Familiarity with ImageJ, GraphPad Prism, or other scientific data analysis software.
- Previous experience working in an academic research laboratory
