REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education

 

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

 

PROGRAM MANAGEMENT

 

  1. Maintains an orderly system of management and keeps the Marshall County Director of Special Education, Supervisor of Elementary Instruction, Head Start Director and/ or Head Start Education Coordinator informed of the programs activities and problems as well as routine matters relating to his/her own accountability.
  2. Assists with interviews for Preschool staff positions.
  3. Completes data collection for state Preschool reports, December 1 Special Education report, March 1 Preschool Enrollment Count, and assists with data collection for federal Head Start reports.
  4. Identifies children eligible for tuition program, maintain records, collect tuition payments for Fall and Spring semesters.
  5. Makes home visits as necessary to encourage participation, positive communication between family and Preschool, etc.
  6. Designs district Preschool templates for lesson plans, observations, and response to intervention (RTI). 
  7. Performs monthly classroom observations for each preschool teacher and completes a post-observation discussion regarding teacher/classroom strengths and weaknesses.
  8. Provides professional development opportunities related to current program goals for district preschool staff.

 

SPECIAL EDUCATION

 

  1. Organizes the Preschool/Kindergarten “Child Find” activities by: coordinating and communicating with appropriate community service agencies, planning, scheduling, and coordinating the referral, testing, and placement of students identified from “Child Find” activities.
  2. Coordinates with agencies to obtain evaluation information (i.e., audiologist, eye doctor, KSB, etc.)
  3. Monitors individual education programs and student folders to ensure student needs are being met within specified legal guidelines/regulations.
  4. Coordinates, schedules, and attends ARC meetings as requested by Guidance Counselors, Teachers, or Special Education Director.
  5. Coordinates and schedules ARC transition meetings for children entering Preschool from First Steps and for children entering Kindergarten from Preschool.
  6. Assists in coordination and maintenance of the child tracking system.
  7. Assists Early Head Start home-based teacher and Preschool teachers in intervention programming.

 

STAFF TRAINING

 

  1. Disseminates materials and trains Preschool staff on new and revised matters.
  2. Provides training to Preschool staff in the following areas: assessment and identification, specific curriculum programming and materials, programming, methods/strategies, service delivery systems, parental involvement, and other identified by needs assessment.
  3. Assists in formulating checklists and forms for accurate documentation.
  4. Assists in providing teachers with accurate training and feedback regarding appropriate due process procedures.
  5. Consults with school personnel concerning behavioral and academic needs of students upon request.
  6. Assists with training for accurate utilization of IEP’s.
  7. Collects relevant data, reviews and recommends curriculum needs for Preschool children.
  8. Provides pertinent information regarding special education materials.
  9. Assists teachers in the area of student transition activities.
  10. Provides recommendations and documentation concerning individual students to Principals and/or Guidance Counselors upon request.

 

PROFESSIONAL

 

  1. Attends state, regional, and local meetings as necessary for the discussion of matters relevant to the Preschool/Head Start program.
  2. Performs related duties and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Special Education/Preschool Coordinator, Supervisor of Elementary Instruction and/or Superintendent.
