The Research Investigator (RI) develops actionable intelligence, identifies and documents relevant evidence, and delivers clear, defensible findings that support case strategy and informed decision-making. The RI manages multiple active investigations, prioritizing work based on investigative value and deadlines set forth by management, and analyzes information from diverse sources to assess credibility, identify inconsistencies, and surface meaningful insights. This role produces concise, well-documented written work product that clearly explains findings and their relevance, collaborates closely with investigative and client teams as priorities evolve, and maintains responsiveness and case momentum while operating effectively in a remote environment, including non-traditional hours when required by investigative needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop intelligence using open sources and legally obtained records to identify leads, corroborate information, and surface inconsistencies.
  • Gather, organize, and document relevant evidence in a manner that is accurate, defensible, and ready for reporting or downstream use.
  • Analyze information from multiple sources, assess credibility, and translate raw data into concise findings and recommendations.
  • Produce clear written work product (updates, summaries, and final reporting) that explains what was found, how it was found, and why it matters.
  • Coordinate with investigative and case teams to align research efforts with case objectives, shifting priorities as new information emerges.
  • Operate effectively in a remote environment, maintaining responsiveness and case momentum across non-traditional hours when required by investigative needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in a related discipline (e.g., Sociology, Criminology, Legal Studies, Journalism, Public Health/Medical field) or an equivalent combination of education and relevant investigative experience.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting investigative research and case-support work (e.g., investigations, claims support, risk management, compliance, or related fields).
  • Working knowledge of OSINT (Open Source Intelligence), including public-records research, identity and relationship verification, and source validation.
  • Strong analytical capability to evaluate complex information, follow appropriate leads, identify inconsistencies, and draw defensible conclusions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present investigative findings clearly, concisely, and confidentially.
  • High attention to detail to develop leads, ensure accuracy, and maintain clean documentation and reporting.
  • Ability to manage multiple investigations simultaneously, prioritize based on investigative value and deadlines, and deliver timely work product.
  • High discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive or confidential information; demonstrated commitment to integrity and ethical investigative standards.

Preferred Certifications / Training

  • Professional certifications or formal training in investigative research, OSINT, or fraud-related investigations (e.g., CFE, CIFI, or comparable).

Benefits

  • Comprehensive healthcare, medical, and 401(k) plans
  • Employer-paid life insurance; dental and vision coverage
  • Opportunities for professional development and training
  • Paid time off (PTO)
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and opportunities for advancement
