Job Responsibilities:
- Understands and is knowledgeable of all work role responsibilities of the Patient Account Representative.
- Participates in and oversees the processes relating to the charge capture, coding, charge entry and financial counseling processes, including the supervision of any assigned staff and/or resources.
- Works with Corporate and Department management to develop and maintain policies and procedures relating to and in support of the Department’s and Corporation’s Compliance Program for Professional Fee Reimbursement.
- Works with assigned staff to make sure they have appropriate access and training for the electronic and manual systems deemed necessary as part of their role.
- Assists in ensuring that appropriate guidelines and forms exist and are sufficient for accurate and comprehensive charge capture and coding purposes.
- Assists in auditing work of assigned employees to ensure accuracy.
- Monitors the effectiveness of charge capture and coding processes.
- Works to develop controls and reconciliations that assist in ensuring that all charges and performed services are captured in assigned area(s).
- Provides various reports, both monthly and ad-hoc, as defined and requested utilized either the practice management system or an available external reporting solution.
- Supports and/or supervisors the precertification process for scheduled procedures as necessary, including communication of any balances due to the patient.
- Researches, monitors and implements payer regulations and guidelines related to revenue cycle activities within assigned area(s).
- Manages assigned staff and resources accordingly, consistent with both UP&S and Departmental guidelines and expectations.
EDUCATION: High School graduation or GED.
LICENSE/REGISTRATION: Certified Professional Coder certification is required.
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years billing experience in a health care organization. Minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience is preferred. Working knowledge of Cerner Practice Management software is preferred.
