Role Description This full-time, on-site Perfusionist role is based in Huntington, WV and supports cardiac and related surgical services across the Marshall Health Network. The Perfusionist will operate cardiopulmonary bypass machines and related equipment during cardiac surgery and other procedures requiring circulatory or respiratory support. Daily responsibilities include preoperative equipment checks, patient-specific perfusion planning, intraoperative monitoring and adjustment of blood flow, oxygenation, and temperature, and documentation of all perfusion activities. The role collaborates closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other clinical staff to ensure safe, effective support throughout complex procedures. The Perfusionist also participates in quality improvement initiatives, equipment maintenance, and ongoing education to stay current with best practices and evolving technologies.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated proficiency in Perfusion, including operation of heart-lung machines and extracorporeal support systems.
- Foundational knowledge of Medicine, with emphasis on cardiovascular physiology and hemodynamics.
- Experience supporting Cardiac Surgery teams in the operating room environment.
- Expertise in Cardiopulmonary support techniques during surgery and critical care situations.
- Understanding of surgical workflows and protocols related to Surgery and perioperative patient care.
- Graduation from an accredited perfusion education program; certification (e.g., CCP) or eligibility strongly preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and decision-making skills in high-acuity settings.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities in multidisciplinary clinical environments.
- Commitment to evidence-based practice, continuing education, and adherence to safety and quality standards.
