What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parks Director position at Marshall County Fiscal Court?
The Director ensures a safe and attractive public park system within Marshall County which can be used by all members of the population for a wide variety of purposes.
Marshall County (KY) Fiscal Court owns and/or operates Mike Miller Park, a 150 acre multi-use campus along with nine day parks and a community building in Aurora. Day-use parks include any combination of boat docks, fishing piers, playgrounds, and/or pavilions, all of which must be well maintained. With so many of the day-use facilities offering access to Kentucky Lake, close relationships must be maintained with both the Tennessee Valley Authority and the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Department. The promotion aspect of this job also requires the ability to use social media and other outlets to promote the park and relay other County information to the media and the public. The Parks Director reports to the Judge/Executive.
Duties:
- Develop and execute a plan to keep all county parks attractive and available to the general public for use. This includes both planned maintenance and responsive maintenance as conditions require (such as clean-up after a storm or a specific event).
- Develop a short-term plan for park operations.
- Maintain a reservation system for those park assets that require dedicated use (ball fields, picnic pavilions, etc.). This includes being the point of contact for major events that may come to one of the County’s facilities.
- Lead and manage all special activities, such as the Western Kentucky Miracle League, Christmas Lights program and fundraising activities.Meet, as necessary, with all interested parties related to the county parks.
- Meet, as necessary, with all interested parties related to the county park facilities.
- Develop the annual operating budget, monitor all income & spending, and adjust operations as required to remain under budget. Attend Fiscal Court meetings and respond to any concerns expressed at that meeting as required.

- Requires a high school diploma, GED, or the equivalent.
