It is the belief of the faculty of the Marsha Fuerst School of Nursing (MFSON) that each team member should have defined responsibilities and that the MFSON accepts the responsibility of supporting its team members in the achievement of both departmental and individual professional goals.
The Assistant Director of Nursing assists the Dean of Nursing with program administration duties. The Assistant Director provides leadership and advisement in the development, coordination, implementation, and supervision of the program’s curriculum, policies, and procedures. The Assistant Director of Nursing reports directly to the Dean of Nursing.
The Assistant Director of Nursing, a member of the MFSON Faculty, must meet Nevada Board of Nursing requirements.
All faculty must follow policies and procedures outlined in the Nursing Faculty Handbook and the College Catalog.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists in the formulation of philosophy, objectives, and curriculum of the nursing program.
- Coordinates with and assists the Dean of Nursing in establishing, reviewing, and revising the policies, and procedures of the nursing program.
- Develops, coordinates, supervises, and consults on management systems for the program.
- Plans, implements, and evaluates initial orientation and ongoing educational experiences for nursing students.
- Assists faculty in planning and developing clinical/theory schedules, lesson plans, etc.
- Works with the Dean of Nursing to develop, maintain, and utilize records and reports pertinent to the program.
- Assists in securing, maintaining instructional, and reference materials. Participates in selection and preparation of instructional materials.
- Plans and oversees the orientation and training of new personnel.
- Maintains effective communication with assigned personnel and provides necessary guidance and counseling.
- Participates in faculty meetings, projects, surveys, and studies being conducted by the College and program.
- Contributes to the development of new and better ways for performing job functions.
- Assists with preliminary interviews of prospective students.
- Participates in the student advising process.
- Directs and monitors activities of the department in the absence of, or as delegated by the Dean of Nursing.
- Confers frequently and routinely with the Dean of Nursing in regularly scheduled work sessions.
- Maintains professional competence through participation in continuing education and other appropriate learning experiences.
- Acts as first line substitute instructor on-call for clinical/theory relief.
- Assume a part-time teaching load as needed and assigned by the Dean of Nursing to meet program needs.
- Adhere to all college policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Current, unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Nevada.
2. Master’s degree with a major in nursing from an accredited school required, Doctorate degree in nursing or a related field preferred.
3. Three years of experience as a registered nurse.
4. One year teaching experience in an approved and nationally accredited nursing.
5. Experience in academic and/or professional administration preferred.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $125,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
