Position Summary
The Sales Manager is responsible for generating revenue through proactive sales efforts, relationship building, and account management to achieve the property’s sales goals. This role will focus on group, corporate, and/or leisure segments (as assigned) to drive occupancy, average daily rate (ADR), and overall market share, consistent with Marriott brand standards and the property’s strategic business plan.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Business Development
- Proactively solicit and secure new business in assigned market segments (corporate, group, SMERF, government, associations, etc.).
- Develop and execute sales strategies to meet or exceed revenue goals.
- Conduct outside sales calls, client entertainment, and property tours to build strong relationships.
- Prepare proposals, negotiate contracts, and close sales opportunities.
Account Management
- Manage existing client relationships to drive repeat business and long-term loyalty.
- Maintain detailed account information in Marriott’s sales systems (e.g., CI/TY or salesforce.com, as applicable).
- Attend and represent the hotel at networking events, trade shows, and industry conferences.
Collaboration & Reporting
- Work closely with Revenue Management and Operations teams to ensure accurate forecasting and maximize profitability.
- Partner with the Marriott Global Sales Organization (GSO) to capture key accounts and inbound opportunities.
- Prepare weekly/monthly sales activity reports, revenue tracking, and pipeline updates.
Brand Standards & Customer Experience
- Ensure all agreements, proposals, and client interactions align with Marriott brand standards.
- Deliver exceptional service during the sales process and act as a liaison between clients and hotel operations.
- Monitor competitive set performance and adjust strategies to maintain and grow market share.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Hospitality, or related field preferred.
- 2 years of hotel sales experience, preferably within Marriott or another branded hotel.
- Strong knowledge of hotel operations, group sales, and catering processes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Marriott systems (CI/TY, MARSHA, etc., preferred).
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Goal-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently and in a team.
Physical & Schedule Requirements
- Ability to travel locally and regionally for client meetings and industry events.
- Flexible schedule to include evenings, weekends, or holidays as required by business needs.
