Position Overview:
The purpose of the Business Travel Sales Manager is to be the primary on property salesperson for local & national transient business, inbound transient business or Airlines. This position is responsible for proactively soliciting & managing our local negotiated rates. Works to develop, build and maintain long-term, value-based customer relations in order to achieve personal and team related revenue goals. Can focus on all types of accounts or can specialize and focus on specific accounts. Ensures group or catering business is turned over properly and in timely fashion for proper service delivery. Responsible to learn how to support Marriott’s service and relationship strategy, driving customer loyalty by delivering service excellence throughout each customer experience.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Sales & Revenue Management:

  • Proactively identify, qualify, and solicit new business to meet personal and hotel revenue goals.
  • Manage and negotiate local and national transient accounts, including airline opportunities, with a focus on achieving optimal room and meeting space utilization.
  • Collaborate with off-property sales channels (Global Sales Offices, Market Sales, National Sales) to ensure coordinated efforts.
  • Maximize revenue by upselling packages and leveraging creative food & beverage solutions.
  • Analyze market conditions, including competitors, economic trends, and demand, to develop winning sales strategies.
  • Handle complex business opportunities and create tailored solutions to meet the needs of high-revenue clients.
  • Use negotiating skills to finalize contracts and agreements, ensuring profitability and guest satisfaction.
  • Understand and implement need-time strategies developed by Revenue Management.

Customer Relationship Management:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing clients to secure future bookings.
  • Provide exemplary customer service, acting as a liaison between clients and hotel departments during events and programs.
  • Manage the customer experience from proposal to execution, ensuring all expectations are met or exceeded.
  • Attend industry events, conduct sales calls, and host FAM trips to further develop business relationships.

Operational Collaboration:

  • Partner with Convention Services, Front Office, and F&B Operations to ensure seamless delivery of client programs.
  • Support Marriott’s Service and Relationship Strategy by managing contracts and ensuring the successful execution of events.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure accurate and timely communication of all client needs and event details.
  • Participate in daily meetings to discuss sales activities and operational needs.

Guest Satisfaction & Quality Assurance:

  • Act as a role model for guest relations, ensuring satisfaction by actively engaging with guests and addressing concerns.
  • Use guest feedback and satisfaction surveys (ESS, GSS) to continuously improve service levels.
  • Monitor service delivery to ensure compliance with Marriott’s high standards.

Administrative & Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of all sales activities, including account maintenance and follow-up in sales tracking tools (e.g., CI/TY, MARSHA, Lanyon).
  • Assist in the development of yearly budgets and revenue forecasts in collaboration with the Director of Sales & Marketing.
  • Provide leadership and support to the sales coordinator, ensuring productivity and encouraging best practices.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Excellent telephone sales and negotiation skills.
  • Superior guest relationship management and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of group, extended stay, and transient business markets.
  • Strong understanding of sales processes, up-selling techniques, and revenue management.
  • Knowledge of Marriott brand standards and customer service protocols.
  • Proficient with hotel systems such as Lanyon, MarRFP, CI/TY, MARSHA, Hotelligence 360, and Light Speed.
  • Knowledge of hotel laws governing operations, safety standards (OSHA, EPA, ADA, NFPA), and legal contract implications.
  • Strategic planning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong presentation and organizational skills.
  • Represent AURO Hotels professionally to our clients/guests and business partners.
  • Assure that all transactions with guests are handled in a legal, ethical manner.
  • Maintains proper flow of information within the hotel by reviewing sales work file of assigned accounts.

Experience/Education

College degree in Hotel Administration preferred; 2‐3 years hotel Sales Manager/Supervisor experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in hotel of similar size and nature. Knowledge of Marriott’s business segments and brand strategies is a plus. Must be able to speak, read, and understand English.
