High School Junior and Senior Academic Advisor | Full-Time

Job Summary: The Marquette Catholic High School Junior and Senior Academic Advisor will be a passionate educator who is deeply committed to Catholic, faith-based education and dedicated to promoting student success. He/She will foster meaningful relationships with students and families while guiding juniors and seniors through the academic, personal, and post-secondary planning process. The advisor will support students in setting goals, monitoring progress toward graduation, and preparing for life after high school through college, career, and vocational exploration.
The Junior and Senior Academic Advisor will possess strong knowledge of graduation requirements, college admissions processes, scholarships, career pathways, and student support services. He/She will create a positive and encouraging environment focused on student growth, responsibility, and future readiness. The advisor will assist students with course selection, transcript review, standardized testing timelines, college and career applications, and decision-making related to their next steps after graduation.
The Junior and Senior Academic Advisor works collaboratively as a member of the Marquette Catholic academic advising team to carry out the mission of the school while helping students develop academically, spiritually, and personally into successful young adults.
Essential Duties:
● Meet and maintain the requirements and standards of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Western Catholic Educational Association, the Illinois High School Association, the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois, and Marquette Catholic High School;
● Follow the goals, objectives, and procedures established for academic advising, student support services, and college/career readiness programming (annual career fair);
● Maintain accurate student records, academic progress reports, graduation tracking, meeting notes, all required documentation as designated by administration, and utilize academic based sites, including Scoir and Parchment;
● Assist juniors and seniors with course selection, transcript review, graduation requirements, college admissions timelines, scholarship opportunities, standardized testing schedules (including administering ACT annually to juniors), and post-secondary planning;
● Develop and provide resources, presentations, and workshops related to college, career, vocational, and financial aid opportunities, including college representative visits and career representative presentations to the school for students;
● Attend all faculty meetings, workshops, parent-teacher meetings, student conferences, and all in-school assemblies, including liturgies;
● Utilize new media, data systems, and emerging technology to support student advising, communication, and academic planning;
● Create a positive, achievement-oriented, and structured advising environment that motivates students to set goals and take ownership of their future plans;
● Collaborate with faculty, staff, parents, colleges, community partners (rotary student of the month), and members of the Marquette community to strengthen student support systems and improve school culture;
● Accept and model the precepts/teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
Resource Utilization:
● Takes reasonable and necessary precautions to protect students, confidential records, equipment, materials, and school facilities.
● Utilizes school resources, technology, and advising materials effectively to support student academic and post-secondary planning.
Collaboration:
● When required or requested, makes self available to students and parents outside the regular school day for academic advising, college/career planning, and education-related purposes.
● Maintains open and timely communication with students, families, faculty, administration, and community partners regarding student progress and future planning.
Compliance:
● Maintains complete and accurate records as required by law, school policy, and administrative regulation, including transcripts, graduation progress, and advising documentation.
● Assists the administration in implementing school rules and policies on student conduct while promoting accountability, responsibility, and respectful behavior among students.
● Supports school procedures and expectations consistent with the mission and values of Marquette Catholic High School.
● Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
RequirementsEducation and/or Experience:Bachelor's degree.Practicing Catholic preferred.Classroom experience preferred.Master’s in Education, Counseling, Academic Advising, Administration, and/or CI preferred.Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, and Valid teacher certification preferred.Able to attend training and to complete certificate of Protecting God’s Children.Able to complete a criminal background check.All health certifications/requirements are up to date.

Physical Demands:While performing the duties and responsibilities of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, stand, walk, sit, and use hands and arms to handle, feel and reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop or kneel and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
