Position: Mathematics Teacher

Reports to: Building Principal/ Teaching and Learning Supervisor

 

Location/Building: Marple Newtown High School

 

 

Position Summary

The Math Certified Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering mathematics instruction to students in grades 9–12 as prescribed by the District. The teacher promotes student achievement in areas such as Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and/or Statistics, while creating a positive and supportive classroom environment. The teacher aligns instruction with Pennsylvania academic standards, uses data to inform teaching, and works collaboratively with staff, families, and administrators to support student success.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver effective math instruction for high school students.
  • Develop lesson plans aligned with Pennsylvania state standards and district curriculum.
  • Teach mathematical concepts using a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Assess student progress through quizzes, tests, projects, classwork, and standardized assessment preparation.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student performance.
  • Create a classroom environment that is safe, respectful, and conducive to learning.
  • Differentiate instruction for students with varying academic abilities, including students with IEPs and English language learners.
  • Use technology and instructional resources to enhance student learning.
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents, and guardians regarding academic progress and classroom expectations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, counselors, and administrators to support student achievement and school initiatives.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
  • Enforce school policies and classroom management procedures consistently.
  • Support students in developing problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field required.
  • Valid Pennsylvania teaching certification in Mathematics or secondary education required.
  • Prior teaching or student teaching experience at the secondary level preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of high school math content and instructional best practices.
  • Ability to manage a classroom effectively and build positive relationships with students.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to student growth and continuous professional development.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Education, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching multiple high school math courses.
  • Familiarity with Pennsylvania Keystone Exams and state assessment expectations.
  • Experience using educational technology, learning management systems, and data-driven instruction.

 

Working Conditions

  • School-based setting.
  • Regular standing, walking, and classroom supervision required.
  • May occasionally be required to attend evening events, parent conferences, or extracurricular activities.

 

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary and benefits are based on district policies, collective bargaining agreements, education level, and years of experience.

Other Functions:

  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
  • Researches information required to manage assignments including reviewing current and relevant practices for the purpose of professional development.
  • Attends District meetings and works with colleagues to monitor and evaluate student information for the purpose of developing instruction.
  • May report observational data and information to school Principal and Teaching and Learning Supervisor.
  • May facilitate training and assistance to other district staff.

 

 

Work Environment:

 

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some fine finger dexterity.  In general, the job requires approximately 30% sitting, 40% walking, and 30% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

 

  • Employee works primarily in a climate controlled environment except when traveling to other buildings, meetings, training locations and other areas.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 15 lbs.
  • Occasional pushing/pulling, stooping, kneeling, using stairs, bending, reaching and twisting.
