The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cost estimation, project management, and the fire protection industry, with excellent analytical and communication skills.
Core Responsibilities
Cost Estimation And Analysis
- Develop accurate and detailed cost estimates for fire protection and safety projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and overhead.
- Analyze project blueprints, specifications, and other documentation to determine project scope and requirements.
- Conduct site visits and assess project conditions to identify potential cost factors and risks.
- Prepare and submit comprehensive bids and proposals, ensuring they meet client specifications and project requirements.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information and refine estimates.
- Review and adjust estimates based on feedback and changes to project scope or specifications.
- Obtain and evaluate quotes from vendors and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing and quality.
- Negotiate terms and conditions with suppliers and subcontractors to secure favorable rates and maintain cost control.
- Integrate subcontractor and vendor costs into overall project estimates.
- Monitor and track project costs throughout the lifecycle to ensure adherence to budgets and identify potential variances.
- Provide recommendations for cost-saving measures and value engineering opportunities to optimize project budgets.
- Prepare detailed cost reports and analysis for review by project managers and senior leadership.
- Maintain accurate and organized records of estimates, bids, and related documentation.
- Prepare and present cost analysis reports, including comparisons of estimated versus actual costs.Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and contractual requirements in all estimation activities.
- Stay current with industry trends, market conditions, and changes in fire protection technology and regulations.
- Implement and promote best practices in cost estimation and project management.
- Provide feedback and suggestions for improving estimating processes and tools.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in cost estimation, preferably within the fire protection or construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of fire protection systems, materials, and installation processes.
- Proficiency in estimation software and tools, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and generate accurate cost estimates.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Valid driver's license
- Cover the Christiansburg, VA and Logan, and Princeton, WV areas.90% in the field/10% in the office. (Minimal overnights if any.)
- Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (relevant certifications are a plus).
- NICET 2 Installation or IT&M preferred
