Position Summary
The Director of Accounting Operations is a key leadership role within Marmic Fire & Safety’s Finance organization, responsible for overseeing the company’s day-to-day accounting operations, initially focused on Accounts Receivable (A/R) and evolving to include Accounts Payable (A/P) and broader transactional processes. This role ensures accuracy, efficiency, and scalability in accounting workflows that support Marmic’s continued growth across multiple branches and service lines in the fire protection industry.
The Director partners closely with the Sr. Corporate Controller, branch operations, and shared services teams to optimize financial processes, strengthen internal controls, and enhance cash flow performance while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and compliance.

The Director of Accounting Operations is a key leadership role within Marmic Fire & Safety’s Finance organization, responsible for overseeing the company’s day-to-day accounting operations, initially focused on Accounts Receivable (A/R) and evolving to include Accounts Payable (A/P) and broader transactional processes. Core Responsibilities
Accounts Receivable Leadership (Current Focus)
- Oversee all aspects of the A/R process including invoicing, collections, cash application, and credit management.
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of billing for inspection, service, and installation projects across multiple regions.
- Collaborate with branch and sales leaders to resolve billing issues and minimize Days Sales Outstanding (DSO).
- Develop metrics, dashboards, and performance reporting to monitor cash collection and billing accuracy.
- Partner with operations and IT to streamline invoice workflows and system integrations (ERP, field service software, etc.).
- Lead and mentor A/R staff, fostering accountability, accuracy, and service orientation.
- Transition ownership of the A/P function into the Accounting Operations group as the organization grows.
- Oversee vendor management, invoice processing, and payment execution with strong controls and efficiency.
- Implement technology solutions for electronic invoicing, payment automation, and improved expense management.
- Maintain compliance with company authorization matrices and spending policies.
- Design and implement scalable accounting processes that support a multi-entity, multi-location business model.
- Strengthen internal controls over financial transactions, including segregation of duties, approval workflows, and audit trails.
- Standardize accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistent practices across branches and business units.
- Support system integrations from acquired companies and harmonize processes post-merger.
- Lead and develop a growing team of accounting professionals across A/R and A/P.
- Partner with the CFO and Controller to align operational accounting with broader financial reporting objectives.
- Collaborate with operations, IT, and sales leadership to drive continuous improvement in order-to-cash and procure-to-pay processes.
- Provide insight and recommendations to improve cash flow, working capital, and operational efficiency.
- Produce regular reporting on collections, cash applications, billing timeliness, and vendor payments.
- Support the month-end close process through reconciliations, accruals, and journal entry oversight related to A/R and A/P.
- Participate in audit preparation and respond to auditor requests related to transaction-level processes.
- Operational Excellence: Drives process efficiency and accuracy across high-volume accounting operations.
- Leadership & Development: Builds and mentors a high-performing team aligned with company culture.
- Analytical Thinking: Uses data to identify trends, root causes, and improvement opportunities.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partners effectively with operations, sales, and IT to achieve company goals.
- Integrity & Accountability: Maintains strict adherence to compliance and ethical accounting standards.
- Change Leadership: Navigates growth, system changes, and integrations with flexibility and professionalism.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including 5 years in a leadership or management role.
- Strong technical knowledge of Accounts Receivable and/or Accounts Payable operations.
- Experience in a multi-location service, construction, or fire protection industry environment.
- Proven track record of process improvement, automation, and ERP utilization (e.g., NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Viewpoint, or similar).
- Strong analytical and communication skills with the ability to influence across departments.
- CPA or MBA preferred.
- Experience integrating acquisitions or managing accounting operations in a private equity-backed or high-growth environment.
- Familiarity with project-based accounting and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
- Working knowledge of service management or dispatch systems common in the fire protection industry.
