Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Controls Test Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for performing panel-level and system-level testing, troubleshooting wiring and component issues, and supporting the electrical checkout of our water treatment systems. This position works closely with the Controls Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, and Production teams to validate system performance and ensure customer specifications are met.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform functional testing of water treatment systems, including, but not limited to: control panels, system wiring, motors and pumps, control valves, and sensors in accordance with design documentation and testing protocols.
- Verify proper wiring, labeling, and installation of components according to electrical schematics, P&IDs, and general arrangement drawings.
- Load and validate PLC and HMI programs with guidance from Controls Engineers.
- Perform simulations and loop checks using test equipment and diagnostic tools.
- Troubleshoot electrical and control system issues; document and escalate findings as needed.
- Work with engineering to implement design changes or corrections identified during testing.
- Support UL508A compliance and quality standards during panel inspections.
- Maintain accurate records of test results, configuration changes, and test equipment usage.
- Develop and maintain test fixtures and other supporting equipment.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by providing feedback on design and assembly processes.
Skills
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and piping & interconnect diagrams.
- Familiarity with industrial control components (PLCs, HMIs, fuses, circuit breakers, relays, VFDs, sensors).
- Experience using multimeters, loop calibrators/simulators, and other test equipment.
- Strong attention to detail, documentation, and safety practices.
- Basic understanding of PLC logic and HMI operation.
- Experience with water treatment or industrial process systems is a plus.
Education & Experience
- Associate’s degree in electrical engineering technology or related field, or equivalent hands-on work experience.
- 2 years of experience in electrical troubleshooting, control panel testing, industrial system validation, or related field.
Physical Demands
- Shop floor environment with exposure to electrical equipment and tools.
- Must be comfortable working around live electrical systems (with proper PPE and training).
- Occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs.), bending, and standing for extended periods required.
- This is an on-site position as testing is done in-house.
Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
