What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Supervisor position at Marlite Inc?

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY

Supervises production employees in a designated area and is responsible for the maintenance of good employee relations together with discipline, safety and general supervision of employees. Position is accountable for specified quantity, quality and cost of product within material specifications and labor standards. In addition, the ability to support and understand technical diagnoses of the process and equipment manufacturing the components.

  • Developing and supervising direct reports 40%
  • Technically support Engineering and Maintenance on production issues 15%
  • Implementation and diagnoses support of production constraints, projects, and problems. 15%
  • Plans resource utilization 10%
  • Manages cost control and cost reduction efforts 10%
  • Administration duties 5%
  • Implements plant policies, procedures and practices 5%

CLIMATE

This person works in a fast paced environment and must be able to make quick decisions in order to maximize production while maintaining focus on safety and quality to meet customer expectations. The nature of the product mix for all operations may cause changing priorities frequently.

DUTIES

  • Developing and supervising direct reports

STANDARDS

  • Identifies developmental needs for each employee.
  • Trains, coaches and orients new and current employees on departmental procedures for ISO-9000. Observe compliance with these standards. Monitors and audits job enhancement progress.
  • Assigns daily work, evaluates performance, facilitates teamwork, coaches, counsels and disciplines employees. Provide reinforcement and positive relationship building.
  • Production Scheduling
  • Determines labor needs based on departmental production requirements and assigns workstation rotations.

DUTIES

· Implementation and diagnoses support of production constraints, projects, and problems.

STANDARDS

  • Ability to time study, understand constraints in the process vs. standards and be an integral part of Engineering to provide and implement solution.
  • Ability to identify mechanical issues or failures and provide support and solutions to fixes
  • Identifies and defines the problem, assist in data collection and analyzing data. Use results of analysis to implement corrective action.
  • Monitor progress of solutions implemented.
  • Use corrective actions processes to solve problems.

DUTIES

  • Technically support Engineering and Maintenance on production issues

STANDARDS

  • Ability to support Engineering solutions with equipment repair
  • Provide solutions and recommendations to equipment concerns.

  • Schedules vacation, holidays, overtime and special assignment responsibilities as determined by business operations / needs.
  • Provides tools, personal protective equipment and materials to employees for job completion.

STANDARDS

  • Support and enforce work rules including safety, environmental, and housekeeping within the department as well as the overall plant.
  • Support and enforce employees wearing all safety personal protective equipment properly.
  • Perform accident investigations on employee accidents and near misses in a timely manner. Apply corrective actions in a timely manner.
  • Ensure departmental meetings and other means are utilized to communicate changes or updates to employees regarding business requirements, safety, policies, procedures and practices.
  • Enforce plant policies, procedures and practices by consistently and formally coaching and counseling employees when violations occur.

  • Work closely with continuous improvement efforts to reduce costs and create efficiencies within production and labor utilization (5-S, safety improvements, safety work orders, lean initiatives).

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The job works in conditions with constant exposure (80% or more) to noise, odors, dust, drafts, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, hazardous substances, etc. Long periods of walking and standing are required.
