Marlborough School

Upper School French Teacher

Exempt - Part-Time

Founded in 1889, Marlborough School is an independent girls' college-preparatory school for grades 7 through 12 located in Los Angeles, California. Marlborough is the oldest independent girls’ school in the Southern California region. Central to Marlborough’s vision that Equity Leads Education is the belief in and passion for empowering young women to use their immense talents to better the world and become trailblazers in their own right. Bolstered by world-class faculty and staff, Marlborough students are challenged and inspired to work towards their own personal best and, in doing so, have an almost endless array of courses, extracurriculars, electives, and programs to spark their curiosity, deepen their compassion for one another, and lead lives of purpose.

OPPORTUNITY STATEMENT:

We are seeking a teacher to join our World Languages department, where they will instruct three French courses across the Middle and Upper School Divisions. Marlborough’s French courses develop the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and include appropriate cultural, historical, and literary materials at all levels. In addition, the Department seeks to expose students to current events, culture, and identities in the Francophone world. To better facilitate the Department’s goals, we expect students to use little or no English in class, even at the novice level. Beyond classroom teaching, this position offers the opportunity to be an active participant in the dynamic Marlborough community; teachers collaborate as part of a team to ensure a consistent and cohesive experience for students, and there are various opportunities to engage in school life.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cultivate a safe, engaging learning environment for students.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, teachers, student services, deans, and other administrators.
  • Adhere to Marlborough’s academic policies, guidelines, and expectations while modeling a commitment to student wellbeing.
  • Participate actively in department, grade-level, and school activities contributing to a collaborative and mission-aligned school culture.

  • Possess an interest, enthusiasm for, and commitment to teaching middle and high school students.
  • Has a passion for supporting the developmental needs of teenagers, with the ability to balance high expectations with a high level of support.
