Schedule:
Every Tuesday and Thursday Evening, and every other Wednesday evening, there is one 40-minute instructional period between 4:00- 4:40pm. There will be up to one course of art and up to one course of physical education offered each semester. Teachers in the program will also attend planning and ongoing program meetings.
This position is eligible for job sharing, with several schedules possible. Teachers may split the position 50/50, with one teacher working 23 days per semester and another working the other 23 days at a predetermined schedule. Or, one teacher could work on Tuesday and Thursday nights, and another could work every other Wednesday for content reinforcement. Regular communication between both teachers in the job share is required through a schedule and structure determined by the Director of Alternative Education.
Organizational Relationship or Line of Authority:
Works under the supervision of the Principal of Marlborough High School, the Director of Alternative Education, and the site administrator
Compensation:
$70.00 per hour to be paid off timesheets for required instructional hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays and every other Wednesday. The hourly rate will be pro-rated for classes under 1 hour. To be paid off timesheets. Time spent preparing for classes, grading assignments, communicating with students/families/staff, collaboration time, pre-planning meetings and classroom or materials set-up time is already built into the hourly rate for scheduled instruction. Time outside of scheduled instruction is not eligible to be submitted on timesheets for additional payment.
Statement of Duties:
- Develop, implement, and consistently monitor goals and objectives for and with students
- Assist in assessment of students considered for Alternate Pathway to Graduation
- Work collaboratively using current strategies and pedagogy
- Provide a positive structured environment, addressing appropriate Physical Education, Health and Wellness or Art as appropriate for the specific position
- Provide a positive learning environment for all students in the program
- Communicate regularly with parents of students to develop a strong home/school partnership
- Participate in ongoing planning, implementing, and evaluation of curriculum
- Carry out daily responsibilities of the classroom in person with students
- Attend program meetings, including but not limited to regular, standard monthly meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the high school Principal, the Director of Alternative Education, and the site administrator
Qualifications:
- SEI endorsement required
- Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education as a Teacher as appropriate for Special Position
- Bachelor’s or higher earned academic degree
- Demonstrated ability and strength in working with all learners
- Bilingual (Spanish or Portuguese) a plus
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
