Mark Thomas is hiring a Lead Survey Technician for our Survey Division! The Lead Survey Technician provides training and supervision for Survey Technicians specializing in CADD drafting and quality management. This position further develops standards for drafting and file structures for the entire Survey Division. The Lead Survey Technician acts as a technical lead for the division and acts as a member of the Mark Thomas CADD Team.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs quality checks on deliverables as determined by supervisor, such as: plats, maps, calculations, exhibits, field data, etc.
- Completes work tasks with quality on time, within budget as determined by supervisor.
- Updates supervisor and project team on status of assigned work on regular basis.
- Provides general technical training and oversight to assigned survey staff; partners with the Learning and Development Manager to create and present technical training and learning paths for the Survey team as requested.
- Provides input on Company & Division standards and best practices, and quality management processes.
- Develops and provides training for survey technicians and assistant surveyors; involved in onboarding activities for new hires.
- Uses survey CADD software to prepare mapping for plats, maps, descriptions, ALTA surveys and other deliverables, Topographic mapping, Digital Terrain Models (DTM’s), Point Databases, and calculations for field crews.
- Drafts legal descriptions and other survey documents.
- Performs quality checks on CADD mapping work, legal descriptions, and other survey documents for Survey Technicians and other team members as requested.
- Assists licensed surveyors with resolving Right of Way/property boundaries by researching property information
- Interprets maps and deeds necessary for creating accurate property descriptions.
- Generates records requests for utility information and maps existing utilities.
- Provides support related to storage, transportation, assembly, operation and maintenance of survey equipment and vehicles as needed.
- Effectively supervises assigned staff and provides the appropriate guidance, work assignment oversight, and other administrative supervisorial duties to include timesheet approvals, etc.
- Communicates regularly with supervisor and division leaders (as necessary) with regards to project status, technical needs, and team progress.
- Participates in and create training activities and actively seeks opportunities to contribute to the achievement of Mark Thomas’ vision and goals.
- Participates in the interview and selection process for Survey Technicians and other roles as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or equivalent; BS or AA with a survey or drafting emphasis preferred; equivalent experience considered in lieu of formal education
- 10-20 years’ relevant experience
- Working knowledge of MS Office applications in the workplace
- Advanced knowledge of survey drafting software (AutoCAD, Civil3D, MicroStation, TopoDOT, InRoads TBC, etc.)
- Working knowledge of Survey calculations, principles, terms, and deliverables
- Drafting/CADD certificates preferred
- Demonstrate effective written and verbal skills
- Ability to multi-task and set priorities tasks effectively
- Ability to work & collaborate in a team environment and supervise team members effectively
- Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with a variety of unique and diverse people and personalities

The offered base rate of compensation (California locations only) is based on individual education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location.
