Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Modeler to support enterprise-level data warehouse initiatives for the State of California. This hybrid position requires on-site work in Sacramento every Monday and Wednesday, and candidates must currently live within a 60-mile commuting distance.

The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience in enterprise data modeling, data warehousing, relational and dimensional modeling, Oracle technologies, and will be able to perform both business analysis and technical design. This role requires a strong grasp of the Kimball dimensional modeling framework, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

Data Modeling & Architecture

• Develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models for enterprise data warehouse environments.
• Design and document relational, dimensional, and hybrid data models (Star, Snowflake, etc.).
• Create detailed Data Facts and Dimensions aligned with EDW standards.
• Support and document Kimball Dimensional Data Modeling methodology.
• Work closely with architects to translate logical models into optimized physical models.

Business Analysis & Documentation

• Perform business and systems analysis to gather, validate, and document requirements.
• Prepare Requirements Specifications and Design Specifications.
• Visualize and document enterprise data management processes, including data planning, acquisition, usage, archiving, retrieval, control, and purging.
• Create data flow diagrams to support report design and optimization.

Enterprise Data Warehouse Development

• Contribute to large-scale EDW implementation projects.
• Conduct data analysis and predictive data modeling.
• Mentor team members on industry standards, best practices, and modeling techniques.

Oracle & ETL Responsibilities

• Work with Oracle/ODI/OCI environments, including Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse (ADW).
• Perform ETL development using Oracle tools and PL/SQL.
• Provide technical leadership across data warehousing activities (ETL, requirements, DBA coordination, administration, and analysis).

Qualifications

Required

• 10 years of experience in data management, including 5 years in database design and 5 years in data modeling.
• 5 years as a data analyst or equivalent role supporting large data initiatives.
• 5 years of hands-on experience with ER/Studio for data modeling.
• Strong experience in relational and dimensional modeling, statistical analysis, and machine learning concepts.
• Experience designing Star, Snowflake, and hybrid schema models.
• Proficiency with Oracle, ODI, OCI, and ADW technologies.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Desired

• 2 years of experience working specifically with Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse in OCI.
• Expert-level knowledge of the Kimball Dimensional Modeling framework.
• Advanced experience developing in Oracle SQL Developer or ER/Studio Data Architect.
• 2 years of ETL development experience using Oracle tools and PL/SQL.
• Ability to lead an Oracle-based data warehouse team across ETL, requirements gathering, DBA coordination, admin, and analytics
