What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Manager - Convenience Store position at Marketplace Food and Drug?
Days and weekends must be able to work until 10 pm, 21 years old and up required, must be able to pass background check.
Primary Function
- Plan and direct the activities of the department to supply outstanding solutions to our customers while balancing the organizational goals and objectives.
Responsibilities and Duties
Promote outstanding customer service with all guests and associates.
- Greet all guests and associates with a smile and eye contact within 5 feet of you
- Offer assistance – Solve any problems with the “LAST” method
- (Listen, Apologize, Solve and Thank)
- Thank them and invite them back
- Assist with POS (point of service) customer service (ie: bagging, cashiering) whenever necessary as indicated to facilitate smooth customer flow
- Work with all store personnel to give our guests many reasons to return
Project a professional personal image
- Wear your assigned uniform that is fresh, crisp and clean
- Maintain impeccable personal hygiene (hair - including beard and mustaches, and nails, must be neatly trimmed and clean. Beardless employees must be clean shaven daily)
- Wear your name badge while on duty. Please keep it clean, visible - at chest level, without any stickers
- Keep use of fragrance at a minimum
- Wear a big smile at all times, making that positive personal impact with all customers and associates
Records All Purchase Prices at Point of Service (POS) Terminal
- Use register to scan UPC codes, weigh or manually enter price
- Be familiar with items that require manual rings
- Listen carefully to customer if they question a price. Their trust in us is essential. Correct the error immediately, apologize and thank them for bringing it to your attention
- Ensure accurate pricing…know your current ad, promotions
- Record all price discrepancies and “not in files”, route as directed
- Perform price checks as necessary
Assists the Store Director in planning and directing Store Activities
- Develops daily plan of action, communicates tasks, priorities and follows up
- Facilitates all corporate directives in appropriate areas
- Provides orientation in regards to standards, procedures and practices
- Provides regular feedback, coaching and discipline to employees. Documents communication and actions, keeping SD informed.
- Oversees employee image (uniform compliance and hygiene)
Selects, orders goods and services to be sold in department
- Oversees all ordering in department and does so in a timely manner
- Minimizes out-of-stocks, fills or substitutes to meet customer expectations
- Educates customers on new items, offers demos/samples as appropriate
- Provides for seasonal needs according to customer demand for market area
- Purchases from approved vendors
- Ensures and maintains a constant quality of product
Merchandises department
- Assists with unloading trucks and checks in merchandise, verifies quality, quantity and prices with invoice
- Creatively stocks department, ensuring top level rotation, checking dates where indicated
- Determines location of product displays, builds displays for customer appeal, ease of shopping and safety, avoids cluttered countertops
- Close dated items are clearly labeled or pulled. Monitors storage conditions
- Manages inventory levels, oversees the working of overstock and minimizes out-of-stocks
Actively promotes department and store as a whole
- Models and develops staff in Solution Selling using the G.O.A.L.S method (G*reet the customer, Observe customer body language, Ask questions and listen, Learn to suggest, and S*ell the products)
- Promotes a positive community image with in department, store and community
- Forecasts sales, reviews history and makes appropriate plans and course corrections to promote the sale of items in department
- Works with SD to identify/suggest/support items to promote in advertising plan
- Builds relationships with customers to give them many reasons to return
- Plans and conducts on floor activities and promotions with intercom commercials as indicated
Monitors all department expenses when directed by Store Director
- Minimizes shrink in every way possible – keeps shrink log and transfers to weekly operation report for tracking
- Verifies accuracy of invoices for pricing and shortages.
- Records/tracks gross profit, bill backs, credits due, cost of goods sold
- Stamps and prepares/route invoices for payment weekly
- Prepares for and conducts department inventory as directed
- Makes all product and supply purchases from approved vendor
- Observes all loss prevention strategies
- Keep department supplies to a minimum (consistent with usage)
Monitors department conditions and equipment maintenance
- Plans/facilitates ongoing schedule for department cleaning (shelving, cases, backroom area etc.)
- Supervises and ensures cleanliness, organization and visual appeal of merchandising area as well as prep area
- Ensures all safe operating procedures are adhered to
- Maintains floor safety inspection sheet
- Provides ongoing equipment maintenance, monitor the functioning of equipment including safety devices anticipating problems before they occur. Call for service as indicated.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $12.00 - $14.00 per hour
