GARDEN COORDINATOR RESPONSIBILITIES • Maintain and preserve garden beds, plants, & out buildings (shed and greenhouses). • Organize parent and student helpers to maintain the garden. • Coordinate a library of lessons for staff to use striving to serve all classes who are interested in participating in garden activities and in the afterschool programming. (Work closely with the CalFresh garden educator to create a lesson schedule for teachers taught by the CalFresh educator). • Facilitate engaging hands-on experiences in the garden (planting, weeding, harvesting, etc.) for all grade levels in the after-school programing. • Manage the care and maintenance of the garden, including coordinating volunteers for garden workdays and garden maintenance over the summer. • In partnership with the Badger Boosters Parent, write grants and/or seek donations as needed for supplies and upgrades for the garden, and/or fundraise(e.g., plant sales) to help fund garden • Supervise ELOP garden club after school with students a minimum of once a week. • Supervise parent work crews who help clean and repair things in the garden on weekends and during summer break
Requirements / Qualifications
Qualifications: • Knowledge of gardening and basic plant science. • A passion for engaging children in nature-based learning. • Experience working with youth ages 4-14. • Strong oral and written communication skills including public speaking skills. • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with parents, teachers, and students. • Project management skills.
