DELIVERY DRIVER- PENFIELD

General Description: The primary role of a Delivery Driver is to transport customer orders from the store to the customer safely, accurately, and on time. A Delivery Driver operates a personal vehicle in the course of employment, represents Mark’s Pizzeria at the customer’s home or place of business, is accountable for all funds issued to and collected by the driver, and performs food preparation, dishwashing and cleaning duties in the store between deliveries. A Delivery Driver reports to the General Manager.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Transport customer orders to the delivery address safely and on time, observing all traffic laws and Company driving policies.
• Verify each order against the route slip before leaving the store, confirming that all food, beverages, and materials are present and properly packaged.
• Report for each shift with a vehicle that is fueled, insured, and properly identified with the Company vehicle sign.
• Locate delivery addresses efficiently and contact the customer or the store when an address cannot be located.
• Represent Mark’s Pizzeria courteously and professionally at each delivery.
• Collect payment at the point of delivery, provide exact change, and obtain a signed receipt for credit card transactions.
• Receive, verify, and maintain accountability for an assigned cash bank, and reconcile it with the Manager on duty at the end of each shift.
• Return to the store directly following each delivery and record deliveries in the point of sale system.
• Refer pricing disputes and customer complaints to the Manager on duty.
• Perform food preparation duties between deliveries as assigned, including portioning, stocking and rotating product, and preparing items for the makeline.
• Wash, sanitize, and return to service dishes, pans, utensils, and delivery bags, and maintain the dish area in clean and orderly condition.
• Complete assigned cleaning tasks in the kitchen, dish area, and customer service area, including nightly and weekly cleaning assignments.
• Assist with customer service and order preparation in the store as directed by the Manager on duty.
• Report immediately to the General Manager any accident, moving violation, vehicle failure, or change in driver’s license or insurance status.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills Required:

• Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
• Valid driver’s license in good standing and a motor vehicle record acceptable to the Company and its insurance carrier, maintained throughout employment.
• Reliable, registered, and properly maintained personal vehicle available for use during all scheduled shifts.
• Current automobile liability insurance meeting or exceeding the minimum coverage required by New York State and by the Company, with proof of coverage provided prior to hire and upon each renewal.
• Ability to navigate assigned delivery areas independently and to read and follow route slips and directions.
• Ability to handle cash accurately and maintain accountability for an assigned bank.
• Ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, and honestly.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, flexible, and ability to establish priorities.
• Ability to cultivate effective working relationships with employees and external contacts.

• Physical: Stamina—Able to push, pull, lift or carry objects up to fifty pounds. Perform moderately difficult motor skills such as operating a motor vehicle and a computer keyboard. Frequently walk, stand, sit, and enter and exit a vehicle for prolonged periods of time. Able to climb stairs and walk on uneven surfaces.
• Sensory: Able to read fine print in written documents and use visual discrimination in reading computer screens, route slips and street addresses, including color discrimination. Able to see and hear adequately to operate a motor vehicle safely, including at night. Distinguish normal sounds with some background noise, as in answering telephones, pagers, etc. Able to speak clearly and make self-understood while also understanding others using the English language.
• Reasoning/Cognitive Ability: Frequent need to understand and communicate concepts behind specific ideas and the theories behind several related concepts. Must be able to frequently remember multiple orders, tasks and assignments given to self and others over long periods of time with frequent interruptions. Must be able to exercise sound judgment while operating a motor vehicle and to continue work started by another individual.
• Environmental Conditions: Functions in a Kitchen, with many other employees and appliances, including exposure to water, cleaning and sanitizing chemicals, and hot surfaces, and operates a motor vehicle outdoors in varying weather, traffic and road conditions.
• Equipment: Ability to operate a motor vehicle, POS system, telephone, commercial dishwashing equipment and commercial kitchen appliances.
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures, make change accurately and to apply concepts of basic math.
• Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, route slips and directions, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
