What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Floral & Retail Experience position at Mark’s Garden?
Director of Floral & Retail Experience
Mark’s Garden — Sherman Oaks, California
Retail Store Leadership · Floral Design · Merchandising (No Events)
⸻
A floral store, reimagined.
Mark’s Garden is hiring a design-led store director to take full ownership of our newly reimagined retail environment.
This is not a traditional flower shop.
It is a fully designed, highly considered space—where floral, product, and environment are expected to work together seamlessly.
This role is entirely focused on the retail store.
No events. No weddings. No installs.
⸻
The Role
This is a creative commercial leadership position for someone who can design, curate, and operate at a high level simultaneously.
You will have full ownership of:
• Floral collections
• Retail merchandise and product mix
• The visual and spatial experience of the store
• Daily performance, including margins and labor
The expectation is not maintenance.
It is constant refinement and growth.
⸻
This Role Is Built for an Experienced Floral Designer
This position is designed for someone with significant, hands-on floral experience at a high level.
You should already be comfortable:
• Designing daily at speed
• Building cohesive, repeatable collections
• Leading other designers
• Understanding seasonality, product, and mechanics instinctively
⸻
What You Will Be Responsible For
Floral Collection Design
• Create and evolve all daily floral offerings
• Build seasonal collections with clarity, discipline, and a strong point of view
• Ensure all products are consistent, repeatable, and correctly priced
• Maintain quality across all designers
Retail Growth & Merchandising
• Expand and refine the retail merchandise business
• Build a curated product mix that complements the floral offering
• Drive sales through editing, placement, and storytelling—not volume
• Continuously evolve the store so it feels considered, not static
Store Environment
• Maintain full visual control of the space
• Ensure the store is always full, composed, and intentional
• Execute window and in-store displays that feel editorial, not decorative
Operations & Margins
• Run daily production and staffing in real time
• Actively manage labor, cost of goods, and waste
• Ensure all product categories perform within target margins
• Adjust product mix and production based on performance—not routine
Client Experience
• Lead a front desk team that delivers a polished, confident, high-touch experience
⸻
The Standard
• Floral work is considered and consistent
• Retail is curated and growing
• The store is visually resolved at all times
• Margins are protected without compromising design integrity
⸻
Who This Is For
You:
• Have extensive floral design experience
• Have a clear, developed point of view
• Understand how to turn design into profitable product
• Can balance aesthetic and margin without sacrificing either
• Are comfortable leading while staying fully hands-on
• Move quickly without lowering standards
⸻
This Role Will Not Be the Right Fit If
• Your experience is primarily non-floral
• You prefer to oversee rather than design
• You are looking to move into events
⸻
Creative Direction
You will work directly with
Michael Uncapher,
translating a broader creative vision into a daily, physical, high-performing reality.
