Qualifications
- Must hold a valid Illinois Paraprofessional License
- Associate’s degree required, bachelor’s degree preferred
- Fluency in multiple languages is a plus
- Communication and interpersonal skills which are effective, respectful, and sensitive for a diverse population
- Must be able to work effectively as a team member
Job Responsibilities
- Coordinate and implement family education and school involvement activities for all students
- Build and maintain relationships and communication with assigned Pre-K families
- Conduct outreach activities to increase awareness of Pre-K program
- Contact parents to schedule and confirm screening appointments, arrange transportation if needed
- Assist families in completing screening and registration paperwork, as needed
- Communicate with families and school staff regarding family compliance with school district and state guidelines for physicals, immunizations, enrollment forms, and attendance and follow up as needed
- Coordinate with community agencies and follow up with student services such as vision and hearing, dental screenings, food bank, and picture days
- Collaborate with the school social workers to assist families with community resources
- Maintain records of family contacts, parent attendance at family events, educational programs, and volunteerism
- Supervise student arrival and departure, bus loading/unloading, and parent/student drop off
- Supervise children during bus returns, communicate with families
- Participate in building committees as appropriate
- Plan and coordinate Kindergarten transition activities with appropriate staff and families
- In special circumstances, fill in for classroom or office staff as needed
- Assist classroom teachers with education and assessment of small groups of children as needed
- Attend family events and after-hours meetings such as Pre-K Advisory Council and parent teacher organization meetings
- Conduct parent education classes on the importance of early education and how to assist their children with educational activities at home
- Carry out other duties as assigned by the building and/or district administration
- Maintain standards specified in Professional Performance Expectations for School District No. 118 Employees
Terms of Employment
- 180-day position with wages, hours, terms, and conditions of employment in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Board of Education and the Danville Education Association
