Electrical Engineer – Unmanned Marine Systems

Maritime Tactical Systems (MARTAC), Inc.
Melbourne, FL Full Time
POSTED ON 4/15/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 10/11/2026

Location: Melbourne, Florida

MARTAC is leading the transformation of unmanned surface vessel technology with trusted autonomous, networked systems that combine speed, range, maneuverability, and stealth. Each MARTAC employee plays a vital role in delivering leading-edge solutions to military, government, and commercial customers across the globe; and we’re committed to providing our people with the best opportunities to share their knowledge, develop their skills, and push their innovative ideas to the cutting-edge.

Purpose: Provide additional electrical engineering capacity to support the design, integration, and documentation of electrical systems for five unmanned surface vessels. This role will help reduce overload on the current remote electrical lead by handling day-to-day design, analysis, and production documentation tasks across multiple projects with aggressive timelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical power distribution systems, including DC power architecture, battery management, power conversion, grounding, and isolation for unmanned catamarans and monohulls.
  • Create detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, harness designs, and cable routing plans in coordination with mechanical structures and hull layouts.
  • Support integration of propulsion controls, navigation electronics, payload interfaces, sensors, and autonomy/communication systems.
  • Perform electrical load analysis, power budget calculations, voltage drop studies, and failure mode assessments to ensure reliable operation in marine environments.
  • Develop production-ready electrical documentation packages (schematics, BOMs for electrical components, assembly instructions, and test procedures) suitable for external builders/shipyards with minimal RFIs.
  • Collaborate closely with Project Leads and Mechanical Designers on system interfaces (e.g., mounting, waterproofing, vibration isolation, and through-hull penetrations).
  • Conduct trade studies on components, materials, and architectures to optimize weight, reliability, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Support verification and validation activities, including bench testing, harness prototyping, and troubleshooting during integration phases.
  • Assist with configuration management and release of electrical drawings/BOMs using PLM/PDM tools.
  • Participate in cross-project reviews to standardize electrical approaches across the T12–T82 vessel family where possible.
  • Provide technical support for builder questions during external fabrication (especially for T82 hull/deck and other vessels).

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 3–7 years of experience in electrical system design for marine vehicles, unmanned systems (USVs/ASVs), robotics, or complex electromechanical platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with marine electrical systems: power distribution, grounding/bonding, corrosion mitigation, waterproofing (IP ratings), and harsh environment design.
  • Proficiency with electrical CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, EPLAN, or similar) for schematics and harness design.
  • Strong understanding of communication protocols common in marine/unmanned systems (CAN, Ethernet, NMEA 2000, RS-232/485, etc.).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance (U.S. citizenship required; must be eligible and willing to complete the investigation process).
  • Proven ability to produce clear, buildable documentation packages for external fabrication.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background investigation and drug screen.
  • US Citizenship

Strongly Preferred Qualifications

  • Active or current Secret security clearance.
  • Direct experience with unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), autonomous marine platforms, or small-to-medium craft (catamarans or similar).
  • Knowledge of marine standards and best practices (ABYC, ISO 13297, MIL-STD for defense-related elements, or lightweight unmanned equivalents).
  • Experience with battery systems, propulsion motor controllers, and integration of COTS electronics in marine environments.
  • Familiarity with weight/CG tracking, EMI/EMC considerations, and vibration/shock analysis for vessel-mounted electronics.
  • Prior work in a fast-paced, multi-project environment with tight deadlines and matrix team structures.
  • Local or willing to work hybrid in the Melbourne, FL (Space Coast) area for effective collaboration with the mechanical team.
