Assistant Photographer

Marissa Collections is seeking an Assistant Photographer to own the day-to-day production of eCommerce product photography while supporting the Photographer across editorial, campaign, lifestyle, event, and other creative photoshoots.

This role combines the structure and productivity of a high-volume eCommerce photography position with the opportunity to participate in broader luxury fashion and jewelry photography.

The Assistant Photographer will have primary responsibility for ensuring merchandise is photographed accurately, consistently, and efficiently for MarissaCollections.com, while serving as the Photographer's primary support for larger-scale creative productions.

Responsibilities

Product Photography

• Photograph ready-to-wear, fine jewelry, handbags, shoes, accessories, and other merchandise.
• Manage product photography from merchandise receipt through final edited asset delivery.
• Execute product/still-life and on-model/on-the-body photography according to established standards.
• Maintain consistent lighting, framing, scale, angles, backgrounds, and image quality across categories.
• Produce approximately two or more final images per photographed style/colorway based on standards.
• Prepare merchandise for photography, including steaming, positioning, styling, and jewelry placement.
• Perform color correction, cropping, exposure adjustments, retouching, and background cleanup.
• Maintain accurate file naming, style identification, image organization, and digital asset management.
• Ensure merchandise is accurately tracked and promptly returned following photography.
• Safely handle luxury merchandise and high-value fine jewelry according to company procedures.

Productivity & Turnaround

• Maintain a standard 1-business-day turnaround for merchandise received and ready for photography.
• Manage the daily product photography queue independently.
• Prioritize new arrivals, launches, confirmed sales, replenishment, and other urgent merchandise as directed.
• Maintain established photography coverage goals, currently approximately 75% of jewelry and 65% of non-jewelry styles/colorways requiring web photography.
• Monitor daily and weekly output and communicate potential backlogs or capacity constraints before they impact product launches.
• Minimize reshoots through accurate, consistent execution.

Photographer Assistance

• Assist with editorial, campaign, lookbook, model, designer, lifestyle, event, and location photoshoots.
• Assist with lighting setup, equipment, backdrops, camera preparation, and breakdown.
• Prepare and organize merchandise for shoots.
• Assist with shot lists and production organization.
• Support model and talent preparation and maintain efficient product flow throughout shoots.
• Capture secondary angles, detail shots, behind-the-scenes imagery, or supplemental content as directed.
• Assist with image selection, organization, editing, retouching, and asset delivery.
• Support location scouting and shoot preparation when needed.
• Maintain and organize photography equipment and studio supplies.
• Provide additional photography coverage when the Photographer is unavailable or when production volume requires additional support.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. as needed for product handling, photoshoot preparation, content capture, event setup, or cross-department preparation.
• Ability to stand, bend, reach, move equipment, and work on your feet for extended periods during product photography, model shoots, events, and on-location productions.

Skills & Qualifications

• Strong photography fundamentals, including lighting, composition, exposure, color accuracy, and image consistency.
• Experience with professional DSLR or mirrorless camera systems, lenses, studio lighting, and photography equipment.
• Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, Capture One, or comparable professional photography and editing software.
• Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail and the ability to independently manage a high-volume product photography workflow.
• Ability to maintain consistent photography standards across ready-to-wear, fine jewelry, handbags, shoes, accessories, and other luxury merchandise.
• Strong retouching and post-production skills, including color correction, cropping, exposure adjustments, background cleanup, and digital file preparation.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining established photography turnaround times and production deadlines.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with the Photographer, eCommerce, Creative, Buying, Inventory, and other cross-functional teams.
• Comfortable assisting with editorial, campaign, model, lifestyle, event, and on-location photoshoots.
• Experience photographing fashion, luxury products, fine jewelry, or eCommerce merchandise preferred.
• Portfolio demonstrating photography skills and technical capabilities required.
