Job Description
The Junior Accountant is responsible for assisting the Accountant and Finance Director in carrying out duties as assigned, including assisting with budget preparation, reports, and maintenance of the computerized accounting system. Junior accountants will work under the guidance of the senior accountant. Assist in coordinating activities and training of Accounting Clerks/Assistant relating to flow of the accounting functions.
JUNIOR ACCOUNTANT ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
- Responsible for recording business transactions by posting journal entries. This ensures that all financial activities are accurately documented.
- Responsible for managing and reconciling AR (Account Receivables) and AP (Accounts Payables). The Accounting Assistant will update accounts receivable and issue invoices under the guidance of the Junior Accountant.
- Responsible for computing In-Kind match and prepaid schedule.
- Responsible for updating daily banking spreadsheets.
- Responsible for processing monthly RFPs to outside entities.
- Responsible for making weekly bank deposits.
- Responsible for reconciling all liabilities.
- Assist with monthly Payroll Administration by means of importing payroll journal from ADP and reconciling deductions to ensuring timely payments to insurance company, along with reconciling all agency offered benefits.
- Assist with month end closing.
- Assist with monthly Bank Reconciliations and Credit Card Reconciliations.
- Assist with Fixed Asset Reconciliation and creating the Fixed Asset annual schedule.
- Assist with tasks such as reviewing expenses, payroll records, and other accounting projects.
- Assist with weekly check processing.
- Assist with fulfillment of grant requirements.
- Assist with other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Attention to Detail: The Junior Accountant assistant must be meticulous in their work to ensure accuracy.
- Analytical Acumen: Good with numbers and able to analyze financial data.
- Understanding of Accounting Principles: Familiarity with accounting and financial reporting principles such as Generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Proficiency in MS Office: Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, with focus on using excel to perform complex formula (fx), Pivot Table and VLOOKUP.
- Software Familiarity: Experience with relevant accounting software.
- Knowledge of MIP/Fund Accounting preferred.
- Qualifications: qualifications such as associate degree in accounting, statistics, mathematics, or relevant area.
- Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting preferred.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate degree in accounting and business related areas.
2-3 years of Accounting experience.
Valid Florida Class E Driver’s License and Driving Record that meets company’s insurance standards is required.
Must have reliable transportation.
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday, 8am – 5pm with one hour lunch
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $40,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
