Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented, and skilled Veterinary Technician to join our dedicated team. The ideal candidate will work under the supervision of the technician manager to provide exceptional medical care to our patients and outstanding service to their owners. This role is integral to our mission of delivering the highest standard of veterinary medicine and patient care. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Patient Care & Support: Obtain patient histories, perform initial physical examinations (weight, temperature, pulse, respiration, pain score), provide general nursing care, and offer emergency first aid when necessary.
  • Anesthesia & Surgery: Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures, safely induce and monitor anesthesia, check and record vital signs during surgery, and monitor patients during recovery.
  • Laboratory & Diagnostics: Collect specimens (blood, urine, feces) and perform routine in-house laboratory procedures and tests. Prepare samples for outside labs. Assist with diagnostic imaging, including taking and developing X-rays.
  • Medication & Treatments: Administer medications, treatments, and vaccines as prescribed by the veterinarian (PO, IM, SQ, IV). Accurately calculate dosages and create medication schedules.
  • Client Education & Communication: Educate clients about pet health, nutrition, behavior, and post-operative home care instructions. Communicate effectively and compassionately with pet owners regarding procedures and follow-up.
  • Record Keeping & Administration: Maintain accurate and detailed electronic medical records. Assist with administrative duties, such as scheduling appointments and managing inventory.
  • Facility Maintenance: Ensure all exam rooms, surgical suites, and patient areas are clean, stocked, and sanitized according to safety protocols (OSHA). 

Qualifications and Skills

  • Education: Associate or Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA-accredited program is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 year(s) of experience working as a veterinary technician in a clinical setting.
  • Licensure/Certification: Credentialed (Certified, Licensed, or Registered) Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, or RVT) status in the state of [State] is required/preferred, or the ability to attain certification.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in venipuncture, catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, and veterinary software systems.
  • Soft Skills:
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Compassionate and sympathetic approach to animal care and client interactions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (with assistance for heavier animals), bend, kneel, and stand for long periods of time.
