Position Summary

The Safety Manager provides hands-on safety leadership and oversight across assigned field operations and facilities. This position partners closely with operational leaders, field managers, employees, and the Director of Risk & Safety to promote safe work practices, reduce workplace risk, investigate incidents, and ensure compliance with company standards and applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations.

This is a highly visible, field-facing position requiring significant travel throughout the assigned region. The ideal candidate is comfortable spending time in the field, coaching leaders and employees, conducting safety audits and investigations, and translating safety requirements into practical practices that work in a fast-paced operational environment.

What You'll Do

Safety Leadership & Field Support

  • Provide safety oversight and support to field and facility personnel throughout the assigned region.
  • Partner with Risk & Safety leadership to implement company safety policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Serve as a safety resource and advisor to operational leaders, supervisors, and employees.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture focused on prevention, accountability, and safe employee behaviors.
  • Coach managers and employees on safe work practices, including the proper use of tools, equipment, materials, and company vehicles.
  • Support local business unit Safety Committees and provide guidance on safety initiatives and areas of opportunity.

Training & Safety Programs

  • Partner with Risk & Safety leadership to develop and implement safety and accident-prevention training.
  • Train managers and employees on company safety procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor required safety certifications and training, including first aid, driver safety, ladder safety, and accident prevention.
  • Support weekly safety/tailgate meetings conducted by field supervisors, including providing training materials and ensuring meetings are completed and documented.
  • Identify trends and opportunities for additional training based on incidents, audits, and field observations.

Incident Investigation & Risk Reduction

  • Lead or support investigations involving workplace accidents, injuries, property damage, vehicle incidents, and other serious safety events.
  • Conduct and document root-cause analyses and recommend appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
  • Ensure corrective actions are implemented and followed through to completion.
  • Train and coach field managers on proper accident and injury reporting and root-cause investigation practices.
  • Assist with the preparation of documentation and evidence related to insurance investigations, hearings, claims, or litigation when required.
  • Partner with appropriate internal teams on workers' compensation, return-to-work, and injury-management matters.

Audits, Inspections & Compliance

  • Conduct regular field safety audits and facility inspections to identify existing or potential safety and health hazards.
  • Recommend corrective or preventative measures and follow up to ensure identified concerns have been resolved.
  • Maintain accurate safety documentation and records in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Compile and submit incident information to support timely regulatory reporting.
  • Ensure safety communications, alerts, signage, barriers, and other materials are utilized appropriately to address identified hazards.
  • Stay current on applicable OSHA requirements and other federal, state, and local safety regulations.
  • Participate in community or industry safety groups and programs as appropriate.

Leadership & Partnership

  • Build strong working relationships with regional and local operational leadership.
  • Influence safe behaviors through coaching, education, accountability, and consistent field presence.
  • Assist other departments with investigations, inspections, or reviews requiring accurate safety and risk-related information.
  • If assigned direct reports, carry out supervisory responsibilities including training, work direction, performance management, and employee development in partnership with HR.
  • Perform other duties and safety-related projects as assigned.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • 5–7 years of progressive field safety experience, preferably supporting geographically dispersed operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations, workplace safety requirements, accident prevention, and industry safety practices.
  • Experience conducting workplace safety audits, inspections, incident investigations, and root-cause analyses.
  • Experience developing and/or delivering safety training to managers and field employees.
  • Working knowledge of workers' compensation, workplace injuries, and return-to-work practices.
  • Valid driver's license with a driving record that meets company requirements.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout the assigned region, including occasional short-notice and overnight travel.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written documentation, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Safety Management, Risk Management, or a related field; equivalent education and relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Safety experience within HVAC, plumbing, electrical, construction, home services, utilities, telecommunications, transportation, field service, or another skilled-trades environment.
  • Experience supporting safety programs across multiple locations or business units.
  • Knowledge of insurance claims and risk-management practices.
  • Experience working within a rapidly growing or decentralized organization.

What Success Looks Like

  • Maintains a consistent and visible safety presence across assigned locations.
  • Builds credibility with field employees and operational leaders.
  • Identifies risks before they result in preventable incidents.
  • Ensures incidents are investigated thoroughly and corrective actions are completed.
  • Helps managers understand that safety is part of operational leadership—not simply a compliance requirement.
  • Uses incident trends, audits, and field observations to identify opportunities for training and process improvement.
  • Creates greater consistency in safety practices across multiple business units and locations.
  • Balances regulatory compliance with practical, field-focused solutions.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
