Position Summary
The Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) supports the implementation of speech and language services under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP). The SLPA works directly with students to carry out documented treatment plans, assist with screenings, and help students improve communication skills critical to their academic success.
Essential Responsibilities
- Conduct speech and language therapy sessions as directed by the supervising SLP.
- Follow documented treatment plans and IEP goals for students.
- Assist the SLP in preparing therapy materials and organizing documentation.
- Collect and record data on student progress and performance during therapy sessions.
- Provide input to the supervising SLP on student responses and progress.
- Assist in conducting speech/language screenings (without interpretation).
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families as needed to support student communication.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with ethical and legal standards of practice.
- Participate in training and professional development required for the role.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising SLP or administrator.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant program or completion of a bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders with eligibility to register as an SLPA in Wisconsin.
- Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services.
- Experience working with school-aged children (preferred).
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently while taking direction and supervision from an SLP.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in a school setting, including classrooms and therapy rooms.
- Requires mobility within school buildings and occasional travel between sites.
- May require physical activities such as lifting, positioning, and assisting students.
