Job Title: General Manager
Location: Houston, Texas
Reports to: Senior Vice President – South Region
Summary
For over 50 years, CMC has provided an array of customer programs including depot services, equipment sales, trucking, refrigerated services, and maintenance and repair with the nation’s largest M&R footprint. CMC is heavily invested in both Marine and Rail sectors. With a focus on family values, safety, and customer service, CMC currently has depots in 12 cities throughout the Southeast and Gulf regions and over 40 Maintenance and Repair sites throughout the Northeast, Southeast, Southern and Gulf regions.
Due to growth and expansion, we are currently searching for a General Manager to lead operations in the Houston market. This position has full operational and financial responsibility for the CMC Houston Depot, Bayport, and Barbours Cut Marine Terminals. The General Manager will be responsible for building and sustaining a safe, profitable, and high-performing organization aligned with the company’s mission and strategic objectives, while delivering exceptional customer service and operational excellence.
Job Responsibilities:
· Develop and deliver annual and long-term operating budgets on schedule.
· Achieve approved revenue, cost, and profitability targets within established budgets.
· Maintain full responsibility for profit and loss (P&L) performance.
· Motivate, coach, and develop teams to exceed operational and financial targets.
· Ensure timely maintenance and repair services are performed in accordance with the highest industry standards.
· Oversee preventative maintenance programs for container handling equipment and fleet assets.
· Ensure compliance with all applicable industry and regulatory standards, including AAR, IICL, OSHA, FMCSA, DOT, and TMC.
· Ensure all technicians receive appropriate training and that certifications remain current.
· Provide accurate operational and performance data to customers and internal stakeholders.
· Attend standardized internal meetings and customer meetings, in person and via virtual platforms.
· Prepare and present operational and financial data for periodic Board of Directors meetings.
· Balance staffing levels (FTE) with operational volumes and capacity demands.
· Ensure timely and accurate administrative data entry for reporting and billing purposes.
· Enforce the company’s 24 Safety Program and promote a strong safety culture.
· Oversee parts and material purchasing, inventory, and vendor relationships.
· Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, partners, and stakeholders (PHA, WGMA, ILA, and customers).
· Oversee month-end closing activities in coordination with finance and accounting.
· Represent the company at industry events and professional forums.
· Other duties as required to meet business needs.
Job Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree preferred, preferably in Business Administration or a related field.
· Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a general management or senior operational leadership role.
· Demonstrated, proven track record in sales, marketing, operations, and production processes.
· Strong leadership, people management, and process management skills.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets and P&L accountability.
· Ability to build high-performing teams and foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
· Ability to work effectively with internal teams, customers, and external partners.
· Must be located in or willing to relocate to the Houston, Texas area.
Pay: $130,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
